1988 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (FLAC EX - CD Quality Music Download) + VIDEO Version (2024) (Re-UP)

Hello and Welcome Back... For Those Who Are New To This Site  (Bonus Album Of The Week)

Each tape tells a story about what was happening in my life as a young boy growing up in Campbelltown, South West of Sydney in Australia in the 80s

This is Tape 8

The year was 1988 and I had turned 18, Time to spread my wings..

I was still working at B.P in Campbelltown. I was doing driveway duties, helping mechanics when they needed a spare hand and often staying till lockup time then riding my bike home. My boss 'Ray' loved the drink, often starting at 9am and by mid-day, heading off for me to lock-up. I loved this, it allowed me to do things at my own pace.

Sadly, it wasn't always peachy..

On a particular day, I decided to head to the Mall (other end of Campbelltown, NSW) for my lunch break to have a yummy treat called a 'Snack Box' full of various Chinese cuisine.
As I set off on this bright sunny day, I was listening to my Walkman when a young kid on a BMX bike flew past me on my left hand side.. We made eye contact for a brief second and I recognized him as a friend of my sisters.. He was in her year at high school

Also just passing me on the opposite side was a large tip-truck and it was about to turn around the corner in front of me.

I stopped, the kid on the bike didn't and he landed under the trucks back-wheels right in front of me..

I think from memory, the boys name was Adam and as it turned out, the lady that I worked with also knew the family well. She had babysit him when he was younger..

Sadly, he passed away.

Moving On

1988 was also the year for the 'World Expo 88' in Brisbane which I attended and that's where this Mixtape started to take shape. You see, i had brought a Made in Japan AIWA Walkman (HS-J15) that could record from the radio and sound quality was amazing

To get to Brisbane , I caught a extremely long diesel train from Central, (Sydney) to Murwillumbah, near the Qld border then a bus which would take me to Sunshine Coast QLD where I would be staying for a week or so.
During the train trip, which was overnight, being that I had just turned 18, it was time to do adult things so I sunk 2 beers rather quickly and for desert, I ate a big bowl of ice cream (first time on my own) YAY...

Big mistake, It made me Sooooo Sick.... Constant shunting of the train was like being in a blender (well, it felt like it)
When I wasn't throwing up down the side of the train, I was recording this mixtape.

World Expo 88 was amazing. Each pavilion was a journey to another part of the world, from real snowfields from Switzerland to a tiny laser man walking around a village in Japan.

World Expo was the only place where, in one day, you could ride in in a Helicopter, a Hovercraft, the Monorail & chat to K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider.

Moving On

Unfortunately, 1988 still had something in store for me.. I got fired from my job.

I loved this job, I learned so much from this place. (B.P Service Station)

How did i get sacked?

It was a simple misunderstanding.
In passing, I called my boss a silly old bastard... 'Who Hasn't', 'Who Hasn't' ??...
I meant no disrespect.. if anything, he was a lovable, silly old bastard... A really nice bloke who taught me so many things about life.
But, word got back to him, all twisted and made to sound vicious.. I tried to explain but I was caught off guard... and he sacked me.

I was shattered...

So, It was time to move on, once again

This Mixtape was mostly recorded on my Walkman from various radio stations around NSW as I traveled from Sydney to Queensland
Some really good tracks, some rarish in nature... Take a listen.
