Hello and Welcome Back... For Those Who Are New To This Site (Bonus Album Of The Week)
Each tape tells a story about what was happening in my life as a young boy growing up in Campbelltown, South West of Sydney in Australia in the 80sThis is Tape 5
The year was 1985, I was 15 and in Year 9 in High School. (Campbelltown High) and life was not bad.
Sure, I had my fair share
of assholes wanting to bash the shit out of me, but I had one thing they
didn't.. Speed...I was a fast runner, came second in my year, probably
because I was still small (my dad called me a weed) and had these shoes called 'Turbos' that
had little rubber nodules on the bottom of them are kinda sprang you forward
when you ran in them.. These shoes were wicked (similar to these shoes pic below)..
1985 was a pivotal year for me in regards to music
It was the year I received my first Walkman for Christmas (1984),.. Ahhh, to be able to listen to my music in stereo was mind blowing for a 15yo me.. I remember putting in the battery's, heading out to the front porch and turning it on. I had just had breakfast so the rest of the day i could spend listening to music but it was hot, like 27c already at 9am in the morning.
I turned on my Sanyo Walkman (Made in Japan) and tuned into Triple M as my favorite station '2SM' was on the AM band and in mono, so Triple M it was. The first song that came on was 'Band Aid - Do They Know It Christmas, it was amazing to hear
songs in stereo, like unlocking a new level in life. (my Walkman pic below)
Moving On
From memory, I recorded this mixtape from my next door neighbors boom box that i had borrowed and my dads stereo..
Over the years, I have added a few of my fav songs but the original tape is there.. The tape was a 'Thats' brand (Japan) and sounded amazing. Take a listen, some songs you may not remember but once you hear them, you go 'I Remember this'
P.S = Song #15 ' The Tremble M's - We Wish You A Merry Christmas' was done by Triple-M DJ, 'Doug Mulray' and the various characters that he voiced in the 80s along with Jono (Jonathan Coleman) & Dano (Ian Rogerson)
