Following its 12" release exclusively in Japan in 1985, the 'Special Mix' quickly became one of the most highly sought after Dead or Alive remixes. Remixed by Kiyoto Araseki (荒関清人), whom at the time was the resident DJ at Shakamandara in Sapporo, Japan, 'Special Mix' features the newly-released single 'My Heart Goes Bang', as well as three cuts from 'Youthquake': 'DJ Hit That Button' and previous singles 'Lover Come Back to Me' and 'You Spin Me Round'. Araseki also provided liner notes for the Japanese 12" release of 'Brand New Lover', released November 6th, 1986.

Using the original mix, 'Special Mix' was digitally remastered by Ben., marking this as the first time the mix has been released online in HQ. The most popular upload of this particular mix on YT is another digital reconstruction, however it is not correct and does not follow the original mix, particular in the 'My Heart Goes Bang' section.
