Its funny how hearing a certain song can unlock the memories of a place & time / events of your past.
This song is one of them for me.
I was listening to this song, 'Billy Idol - Sweet Sixteen' when i had an incident that happened to me back in
1987.
I used to work in a service station back in the late 80s.
On this
particular day, i decided to head to the mall at the other end of
Campbelltown, NSW in my lunch break and have a yummy treat called a 'Snack Box' full of
various Chinese cuisine.
As i set off on this bright sunny day, i was listening to my Walkman
(Billy Idol - Sweet Sixteen was playing) when a young kid on a BMX bike
flew past me on my left hand side.. We made eye contact for a brief second and i recognized him as a friend of my sisters..
Also just passing me on my right hand side was a tip-truck and it was about to turn around the corner in front of me.
I stopped, the kid on the bike didn't
and he landed under the trucks back wheels right in front of me..
I think the kid's name was Adam and as it turned out, the lady that i worked with knew the family well. She had babysit him when he was younger..
Sadly, he passed away.
I had locked this event away somewhere in the spare room in my mind but hearing this song, it unlocks the door.
Nothing against the song, its a wonderful track but it holds a memory that will stay with me forever.
