From their 1986 album 'Living in the 20th Century' (2nd song) comes this lush sounding track called 'I Want To Make The World Turn Around' which made to #1 in the U.S Rock Charts (stayed there for six weeks).
The Saxophone is played by Kenny G.
I had actually forgotten this song, until i found a tape called 'Classic Tracks' which i recorded around the late 80s.
Take a listen and be swept away by this magic song.
STEVE MILLER BAND - I WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD TURN AROUND (1986)
Love this song, from 1982, Temporary Heartache from Australian singer John Swan (Swanee) brother of Jimmy Barnes, made it to #2 in the Australian music charts.
Used to always hear this song on 2SM (Radio Station) when i visited my Nan's and listen to the radio all night.
Hello and welcome back... Lately iv'e been checking out some of my Fav T.V shows from the 80s & 90s. These include shows like Magnum P.I, Knight Rider, Sliders and... Baywatch.
And this is where this song comes in. You probably don't recognize the name but you will know the song 'Im always here' as the Baywatch theme.
Jimi Jamison was the frontman for 80s band 'Survivor' (think Eye of the Tiger).
Sadly in Sept 2014, Jimi died of a heart attack, he was only 63 years young
Hello and welcome back... Its that time of year again.. Christmas
I Love Christmas, its got a certain feeling about it.
From the department stores that have been decorated, warm weather, family get-togethers, good food and the birth of Jesus Christ.
A friend asked me the other day, what was the best Christmas you remember?
I would have to say... Christmas 1984
It was a warm day, about 32deg (90f), both my Grandparents turned up (that was rare) and i got my first Walkman from Santa. I could now listen to FM Stereo for the fist time although my fav station was 2SM (rock of the 80s) on the AM band.
I put the new battery's in, sniffed that new plastic smell, turned the Walkman on and the first song i heard was 'Band Aid - Do They Know Its Christmas' in 'stereo'.
I had chills and its a time i will never forget, even now, as both my grandparents are no longer alive.
So this is my top 5 Christmas songs that i love to listen to at this amazing time of year.
1. BAND AID - DO THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS
2.THE PRETENDERS - 2000 MILES
3. WHAM - LAST CHRISTMAS
4. JOHN LENNON - HAPPY CHRISTMAS
5. PAUL McCARTNEY - WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE TIME TO SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY READERS OF THIS SITE.
Hello and welcome back... You may have noticed that the posts on this site have been a bit limited. This is because of 2 things.
1. I have started a new site called '98 Albums you need to hear before the World Ends'.
I wanted to create a site that lists all my favorite albums of all time (not just 80s) although most will be from the 80s.
I hope to turn this into a book one day.
Also i will be giving you, the listener, the option at the end to get your hands on the AAC (320kbps) versions of all 98 albums for you to listen to.
Some of these albums are pretty rare and hard to find on CD.
Hello and welcome back... Released in 1985 from N.Z musician 'Shona Laing', Glad I'm not a Kennedy made it to #2 in the music charts (N.Z)
Glad I'm not a Kennedy was from the album 'South'. Also on this album was the track 'Drive baby Drive', another fav of mine.
In 2013, Shona won a Legacy music award for her work.
SHONA LAING - GLAD I'M NOT A KENNEDY
LYRICS
Living on through politics
Body-guarded, heart in bits
A blue-eyed honesty
Indigo injury
The family tree is felled
Bereavement worn so well
Giving up on certainty
Wilderness society
Wearing the fame like a loaded gun
Tied up with a rosary
I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy
Imagine being a Kennedy
Rule without remedy
To watch your family die
The world loves a sacrifice
Prophets longing for the three
Honoring the tragedy
They hunger for the crime
The privilege to take a life
Wearing the fame like a loaded gun
Tied up with a rosary
Ooh, I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy, glad im not a Kennedy
And is not peace basically
A matter of human rights?
The right to live out our lives
Without fear of devastation?
The right to breathe air
As nature provided it?
The right of future generations
To a healthy existence?
Let us if we can step back from
The shadows of war and seek out
The way of peace
I love the look in your eyes
I can see your soul sometimes and we laugh
When we try too hard we stop and start
Oh imagine being a Kennedy
I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy
Wearing the fame like a loaded gun
Tied up with a rosary
I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy
Imagine being a Kennedy
Ooh I'm glad I'm not a Kennedy
The cost of freedom is always high,
Yet one path we shall never choose
That is the path of surrender or submission.
When a man's way please the lord,
The scriptures tell us,
He maketh even his enemies
To be at peace with him'.
We will not prematurely or unnecessarily
Risk the course of worldwide nuclear war
In which even the fruits of victory
Would be ashes in our mouths
Ashes in our mouths
Ashes in our mouths
Ashes in our mouths
