Not sure what my New Years Resolution will be, but its probably to try and remain happy and positive which is bloody hard to do sometimes... Thank God for Music
I did have a moment on Christmas day. For the first time is as many years, it was actually hot, past Christmas mornings have been foggy, raining & cold but not this year... It took me back to Christmas 1984
In 1984, while waiting for breakfast, i had gotten my first walkman that did FM Stereo. I had only heard AM radio at that time so it was an amazing moment to flick the little switch to FM and watch the led light up indicating i was now listening in stereo...
The first song that came through my cheap orange padded headphones was 'Band Aid - Feed the World'... I had chills, Stereo was amazing, a life changing moment and something i wouldn't forget standing on my parents porch in my pjs in 27deg heat at only 10am in the morning.
This Christmas, i was rewarded with the same feeling, for the first time in 5? years, it was a warm morning and again while waiting for breakfast, this time standing in my own front yard, i got my phone and switched on the first album that i had downloaded previously.. That album was Band Aid and i was in a moment of standing in the morning heat, music in my ear and close my eyes with a big smile on my face.. i was 14 again, standing on my parents porch listening to this magical song knowing both my Nans would be turning up shortly to have Christmas Lunch with the family.. which sadly, is something that never happened again..
After the song was finished, i was lifted in spirit and drew a deep breath... i was back in 2021, both my Nans have now sadly past but i still have my wife and kids which i am forever grateful..who were wondering where i had got to..
Funnily enough, after the Band Aid song was released in 1984, i was told by my brother laughing at me some months later, that my singing 'Feeeeel The World, Let them Know Its Christmas Time' was wrong.. Its was 'Feed The World'... Ahhhhh, That makes more sense.. hahaha
For those who Band Aid - Feed The World' has a special place in their heart like i have.. This is how the song was made and recorded...
