Hello and Welcome Back... You Can Find Volume 1 HERE
This is Volume 2..
Each
tape tells a story about what was happening in my life as a young boy
growing up in Campbelltown, South West of Sydney in Australia in the 80s
The year was 1983, I was 13 and in Year 7 High School (Hello Campbelltown High,
where the barbwire is pointed on the inside to keep the students in)... A joke we used to say
Probably the best part of 1983 for me, was going to my Nan's for the weekend.
I was a little shithead in my teen years (ask my mother), very restless and a very
short attention span which sadly, used to drive my poor mum nuts, so she sent
me off to my Nan's for a little R & R.
At my Nan's, I was allowed to borrow her transistor radio at night and I
would lay
awake listening to the radio as I was shit scared that something was
under my bed, I listened to radio stations like 2UW, Magic11(later
became 2CH) & 2SM
(Rock of the 80s)
My Nan's Radio (Pic Below)
I swear my Nan's house was haunted, it was always ice cold, even in
summer and had a real creepy vibe to it.
As a 13yo kid, I was privy to
these sorts of things...
Something felt bad in that house and it
wasn't my Nan snoring.. Was it haunted or was it just my over active
imagination?.. Anyhow, the house was at 21 Colonial St, Campbelltown,
NSW.. Let me know if you have lived there and if its haunted..
Sadly, 1983 was also the year I ended up with chicken pox, that was bloody horrible..
Moving on..
This Mixtape was recorded on my Dads stereo system, all components were made in Japan
(as most stereo systems in 1983 were) mostly when he wasn't home.
His stereo system was a mix of Denon, Ikel, Kenwood & Technics.
The speakers alone cost $3500... In 1983, that was alot of money.
Probably why my mum divorced him. (Headphones, Dad.. Headphones)
Using his stereo, I would have to make sure all the settings were
exactly in the right spot when I finished recording but one day, about
20mins after he got home, I would hear him scream 'Who's been
f*cken playing with my stereo' booming thru the house and up the street,
as it seems I
forgot to set the tape counter back to 0000..
Most of the tracks on this mixtape were from my dads record collection,
some were from radio stations like 'Triple M' / '2SM' recording the
song when the DJ's would stop talking, seriously I think they talked
through the intro of the songs on purpose
I have remastered the tracks in stunning FLAC EXpanded Frequency so the music sounds 'Palpable'
Some of the tracks you may not recognize, but once you listen, you will go 'Oh Yeah, I Remember This'
