1982 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (FLAC EX - CD Quality Music Download) + VIDEO Version (2024) (Re-UP)

Hello and Welcome Back... For Those Who Are New To This Site  (Bonus Album Of The Week)

Each tape tells a story about what was happening in my life as a young boy growing up in Campbelltown, South West of Sydney in Australia in the 80s

This is Tape 2

Back in 1982, I was 12 years old and in year 6 in primary school.

School was brutal on me, I didn't have many friends, had so much energy & was constantly bored. Sadly, I drove my parents up the wall and to save grace (to stop my poor mum from killing me), I got sent to my Nan's most weekends.

I loved going to my Nan's, she just got me.. She understood what I was feeling and most of the times, let me wander around to do my own thing.
Her back yard was huge and it had an an outside toilet (that no-one ever used) which was surrounded by trees & bushes so its made it even more creepy & interesting. I even used to build forts under the house and in the large collection of ferns that ran down the side of the house.

One thing I do remember about my Nan's house, was that it was on top of a tall hill in Campbelltown, NSW and I could see the city at night all lit up from my bedroom window.

It was amazing, laying there in this very high bed (I was fairly small so everything was big to me), scared shitless that something evil was under the bed that wanted to possess my soul, so to calm myself down, I would lay facing towards the window, looking out over the twinkling lights of the town below and listen to the radio (2SM, Magic 11) that was tucked under my pillow while wondering at 2.30 in the morning, where the only car on the road was going at time of the morning. Every now and again, I would see a long line of lights going from one end of town to the other, that of coarse was a train making its way to Macarthur station.

Another fascinating thing about my Nan's house, was the huge wavy glass door that would distort the cars that went by at night.. There was something artistic about it.

Then as daylight was breaking, the birds started singing and it meant one thing.. Thunderbirds was on TV at 6am, so on went the Glowray heater and a big bowl of NutaGrain

The big movie at the time was E.T.

This movie had a big impact on me, mostly because I owned the exact orange hoodie (jumper) as Elliot, same colour, style, everything...

I even left smarties on the back steps at my Nan's house.. You know, in case an alien came by, sadly, my Nan nearly fell down the back steps because some idiot had left smarties right where she put her foot, Not a good idea, but hey, I was 12.. Lesson learnt.. (sorry Nan)

When I wasn't at my Nans, I was at my next door neighbours (only when my Mum wasn't home as my dad would let me sneak next door to see my friends and go for a swim... 'Just be home before your mother gets home' was the chant)

And my only friend in the world at the time was my doggo 'Lady' (real name = Lee Lorrie Lady Kirk) who I would play football with and dress up from time to time. She was a very placid German Sheppard who I taught how to tackle (bite my arm) and to score a try (run between 2 trees)

I loved Lady, she would sit and listen to all my problems and keep me company... She was the best (pic below)

Moving On

This Mixtape was born from two sources, My Dads stereo and my Sisters boombox..(A Hitachi from Memory) when she wasn't home..
