SOUNDZ80S - BEST VIDEO COUNTDOWN

Hello and Welcome Back... A song is one thing but a good video tells the listener what the song is about, or the meaning behind the song... During the 10 years that Soundz80s has been going, there are a few select videos that had captivated me to watch the video over and over and over and ... you get the picture.

So i thought, why not showcase these amazing creative works of art in a countdown of my most Fav videos..

COUNTDOWN COMMENCING... IN..

#10 = DONKEYBOY - AMBITIONS

From Swedish band 'Donkeyboy', this video showcases the dance culture of the 80s and nails it. Our hero is #3 'Ben', a Mark Wahlberg lookalike who fails to impress the judges with his breakdance routine, but, all is not lost, as the team from Donkeyboy kidnaps Ben in a A-Team van and takes him away...

#09 = CHAIRLIFT - EVIDENT UTENSIL

Trippy as fuck, would be great to watch this video when your off your face, and that's what i did, freaked the shit out of me. Around the time i was trying different medications to bring my pain under control, I took a bad turn on a little blue tablet which turned out to be an antidepressant that reacts to caffeine, who knew, who knew??

U.S band 'Charlift' got several awards for making this trippy morphing video in a field of cannabis plants singing 'How High Must I Try'... Catchy song, even has a 'Fuck You' at the end..

#08 = KAVINSKY - PROTOVISION

Very 80s and very Miami Vice, even features a wicked cherry red Ferrari Testarossa while being chased by the police while asking the question, Is Kavinsky a man or is he a machine?

The track 'Protovision' is by French music producer 'Kavinsky' who brought this tune out in the height of the 'Synthwave/Electropop' boom around 2012/13.

I tended to keep away from this genre while starting Soundz80s as i found it repetitive and boring. All one has to do is put a string of sounds into a computer press play and 'Ive Made A New Song'. It was mostly 6 - 9 mins of repetitive sounds and no lyrics with a new song made every day. Some people like this stuff, Video Producer 'Neros77' built his YouTube site on these songs but its not for me, but what sets Kavinsky aside from all the other computer synth wannabes is that his videos are short (like most 80s instrumentals) and alot of thought has gone into his videos.. Very Impressive

#07 = CHVRCHES - EMPTY THREAT

Goth Chicks Are Cool.. OK

Catchy song about having a good time. We all need a good time in life and its found by a pretty goth chick in the backseat of a red Toyota Celica (byo drinks) as they head to a waterpark on a hot summers day.. True to Toyota Celica's shortcomings, a piece of wood holds up the rear hatch as the back hatch was fairly heavy and the little gas struts gave up after a few years.

Sometimes, it fun to just forget this shitty world we live in and let go once in a while... This video captures this feeling perfectly..

#06 = BABYMETAL - GIMME CHOCOLATE

Who ever though joining cute pop idols with thrash metal is a genius.

Metal was huge in the 80s with bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Slayer, Motley Crue, & Motorhead to name a few.. So why not add some metal to the Soundz80s family?

The croud go friggin nuts as the choreographed moves of cute Japanese Idols and the thrashing sounds of the 'Kami' Band form as one, as 'Babymetal'...

The 'Fox God' told them to do it which is why throughout the video they make a little fox symbol with their hands...

This video sounds wicked on a huge sound system or an excellent set of headphones as i can confirm, that me going deaf over the years, have been because of listening to this video at insane volumes...

Rock On..

#05 = PURPLE DISCO MACHINE - BAD COMPANY

Built on the backing track to 'Company B - Fascinated' (1987), German Producer 'Tino Piontek' aka Purple Disco Machine gave birth to 'Bad Company'. Ive lost count the number of times ive watched this video, its very cleverly choreographed and even has 'Helicopter Girl' who makes helicopter blades with her hair.. Genus..

#04 = SBP4 (СБПЧ) - Evil

Music should have no boundary, whether it be political, race, gender, ect, ect and that's why i put this video at #4.

From Russia, the song 'СБПЧ' (Evil in English) is a catchy tune that follows, what looks to me, could be art school students (think 80s T.V show 'Fame' but in Russia). The video follows a guy that reminds me of actor 'Crispin Glover' (Think 'Creepy Thin Dude' in Charlie Angles movie) who end up being hit by a tram in a strange twist of fate, later to be shot and 'set free'... Its in Russian so that's my take of the video...

#03 = TOVE LO - NO ONE DIES FROM LOVE

Who said robots don't have feelings?

I have featured the live studio version of this song on Soundz80s, mostly because it pumps, but the video version is wicked too.

Swedish singer 'Tove Lo' teaches robot to dance, cook and .. err, Make Love?? (lucky robot) only to be replaced by a better version, and.. robot is guttered. No more quiet nights watching movies and snuggling, instead he rips his heart out and kills himself... Bit of a dick move on robots part, hasn't he heard of a threesome?

#02 = GRUM - THROUGH THE NIGHT

Why wasn't this made into a T.V show?? I would watch it..

Scottish producer 'Graeme Shepherd' aka 'Grum' captures perfectly the 80s bromance of two detectives solving crimes together, only one screws up and gets shot. The other cop is left to pick up the pieces as he blames himself and goes into a downward spiral but there's a happy side, as the surgeons work their magic... Love a happy ending

#01 = SEPTEMBER 87 - ROOM SERVICE  (Winner)

I was blown away by this video and have watched it so many times i have lost count.. It captures the 80s club scene with a struggling band fronted by the 'Majestic Zenboy'. Its a good thing their manager 'Leeroy' believes in them (They Sound 'Freeeesh')..

The video is the work of Australian band 'September 87 (James Ballard and Will Ewing) and is a mini story set in a futuristic (but 80s) nightclub.

The lead singer is being hunted by his ex-wife & has been found but the Majestic Zenboy wants to sing one last song.

The actual song 'Room Service' starts around the 3.30min mark but its the build up that sets the scene with their manager trying to seduce a record label executive from 'Starseeker Records' with a spit or swallow question (no judgement here)

Some wise words from Leeroy, September 87's manager.. 'Just Think Positive, Invest in the Negative'

PLAY LOUD
