MODERN TALKING

Hello and welcome back.... German band "Modern Talking" formed in 1984, and was fronted by Thomas Anders (lead vocals, piano) & Dieter Bohlen (lead guitar, producer).
Their music often went under the banner of Europop.

In 1987 the band split up, but reformed in the late 90s
During the split Dieter Bohlen formed the band "Blue System"

Modern Talking brought out a slather of albums through their career, during the 80s the band brought out 6 albums (2 each year).
In 1985, The albums were = The First Album & Lets Talk about Love.
In 1986, These albums graced our ears = Ready for Romance & In the Middle of Nowhere.
In 1987, These albums were set free = Romantic Warriors & In the Garden of Venus

For me the song "Your my Heart, Your my Soul" caught my attention, swooning lyrics with melodic guitars and synths..... And the Hair, then again, It was the 80s
Sadly, Modern Talking wasn't that big here in Australia but I do remember hearing the song "Brother Louie" now and then.
Other songs that were popular in the 80s were "You can Win if you Want", "Cheri, Cheri Lady", "Atlantis is calling (S.O.S. For Love)", & "Geronimo's Cadillac".

A classic example of the best 80s Europop.... Enjoy.

BLACK - EVERYTHING'S COMING UP ROSES (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back.... The band "Black" was the creation from one man.... British singer-songwriter "Colin Vearncombe". Black had a huge hit in 1987 with the song "Wonderful Life", a moody ballad that reached No8 in the UK music charts.
The 1986 song "Everything's Coming Up Roses" which I think is a awesome song flopped on the music charts.

But we, at Electronic 80s don't care if it didn't chart well, we just like to remember so enjoy... Black

ASIA - HEAT OF THE MOMENT (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back....Asia was born from other members from different bands, the one who caught my eye was the Synth player, Geoff Downs,who was from the band Buggles (Video killed the Radio Star).
Other refugees that called Asia home came from bands like Yes, King Crimson & Emerson Lake & Palmer.
Hitting the top 5 in the music charts, the song Heat of the Moment was one of my favourite songs around 1982 and still remains to this day....An excellent example of old school bands moving to mainstream and what they can achieve.

38 SPECIAL - SECOND CHANCE (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back....Formed by two neighborhood friends in the early 70s, this U.S band released the song "Second Chance" in 1989. More known for their southern rock sound, the band changed tact and ended up with a smash hit no1 on the U.S American music charts, Sadly this song was the last song this band released through A&M records.

COMMODORES - nightshift (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back....After the death in 1984 of both R&B singers "Jackie Wilson" & "Marvin Gaye", A band called the Commodore's (missing Lionel Richie) released the tribute song "Nightshift" back in 1985.
This song reach No3 in the U.S music charts.

For me, this song is smooth & classy with meaningful lyrics, a true classic of the 80s.
Something that both Jackie and Marvin would be proud of.

THE REELS - bad moon rising (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back.....Walking through Sydney in the early nineties I stumbled across this band playing live at a open air concert. The band was "The Reels" and they were belting out the song "Bad Moon Rising", it literately made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, they were that good. The photo that you see on the left was taken by myself using a old Nikon film camera (remember them).
What got my attention apart from the excellent song was the strange sound the synth player was making with a mouth piece which made sea like sounds, even to this day I still don't know what it is called.
This song sound great with a good set of headphones, just close your eyes and be swept away :)

Hello and welcome back...German synthpop band "Modern Talking" had a huge hit with this song in 1986.
Brother Louie was released on the "Ready for Romance" album and made it to top 5 in the U.K music charts.

For me I couldn't get into their music, maybe too much hair for me or maybe the music was too cheesy for me, I don't know, but they were huge so who am I to argue.

BELINDA CARLISLE - feel like i feel (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back....2 things make this song special to me, Firstly, it was the first time I got to spend the night with my first "Real" girlfriend (at the time) much to my mothers horror. Nervously driving home the morning after, I turned the stereo on in my car and heard this song and it has stuck in my head ever since. (My mum grounded me for 2 weeks).
The second reason is that the stunning "Belinda Carlisle" has the same birthday as me...August 17th, so Happy Birthday to Belinda and to myself.... 21 again :)

LIVING IN A BOX - living in a box

Hello and welcome back..... British band "Living in a Box" was formed in 1985 but it wasn't until 1987 till the band saw the music charts with a self titled song "Living in a Box" reaching no5 in the U.K music charts.
For me, I first heard this song while working in a retail store called "Venture"... it was kinda like a small version of K-Mart and can you guess what I was in charge of?... The toy section, Oh what fun I had setting up massive displays while listening to songs like "Living in a Box" only to watch some 5 year old kid pick the toy at the bottom and my work of art (Toy Display) came crashing down. Still it was my first job and it taught me how to deal with outraged mothers that couldn't find their kids, who just happened to be buried under a pile of Care Bears...

NEW ORDER - world in motion (lost hit)

Hello and welcome back... Released for England's 1990 FIFA World cup campain, World in motion was New Orders only No1UK single.
World in motion was originally going to be called "E for England" but due to the worries from the football association that E stood for the drug ecstasy, the band decided that World in Motion was a better choice.
This is an excellent song that sadly is not heard of anymore... Thank goodness for Youtube.

Donna had some great songs from the disco era in the 70s thru to the early & late 80s

BAD BOYS BLUE - COME BACK AND STAY ( lost hit )

Hello and welcome back... A few posts back I mentioned about a tape that got cooked in my tapedeck after leaving it in the sun, one of the songs on this tape was Tracy Spencer, an amazing Italo disco song that I just love....
I have found another song from this tape....Must thank Radio Polskie - 80s & Italo disco for playing "Bad Boy Blue - Come Back and Stay".
All I could remember from this song was the flute sound (similar to the koo de tah band) and the "Oh Baby" in the middle of the song and that it was released around 1987.
Turns out, that in 2009 they re-released this song with a more punchy dance beat and synth riffs (how did i miss this? )... Was I asleep? ... This is an excellent song. Enjoy

Come Back and Stay  ( 1987 )

Come Back And Stay  ( 2009 )

Sadly the one of the original singers in 1987 ( Trevor Taylor ) died of a heart attack in 2008 in Germany

Also original backup singer in 2009 ( Andrew Thomas ) also died in Germany

Only one original member of Bad Boy Blue remains ( John McInerney )

TIFFANY - think we're alone now (Classic 12 Inches)

Hello and welcome back...Brilliant song that I never get sick of listening to. This song came out in 1987 and went straight to no1 on the music charts.
Love how this 12" version seems to bring out the synths a bit more as the bass is pumping and even has the occasional cricket noise.... Now, I'm in heaven.

PLASTIC BERTRAND - ca plane pour moi ( lost hit )

Hello and welcome back...Just outside the 80s was this strange song.
Sang by Belgian musician Roger Allen Francois Jouret ( aka Plastic Bertrand ) in 1978.
He started his career in music as a drummer in the band "The Bisons" playing Rolling Stone covers.

O.k here's the bad news, Plastic Bertrand didn't actually sing this, The song "Ca Plane Pour Moi" was recorded in a studio and was sung and produced by Lou Deprijck.
For his efforts "Plastic Bertrand" received only 0.5% of the song royalties (Milli Vanilli anyone )...Still its a great song and even better when had one too many to drink and you try to sing the lyrics...English translation is interesting... goes something like "Wham Bam my Splash Cat",  least everyone knows the chorus... Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo

PLASTIC BERTRAND  - ca plane pour moi

LYRICS TRANSLATED  (yes, its real) .. taken from spicks and specks TV show..many thanks

SHONA LAING - drive baby drive ( lost hit )

Hello and welcome back...This song taken from her 1987 album is one of my favourite songs, its the kind of song i could listen to at 1am in the morning driving down the freeway in the rain.
New Zealand born Shona Laing has the voice of honey, with lyrics you can sing to.
An excellent song.

"Drive baby drive" was taken from the album "South" and also includes the hit 'glad I'm not a Kennedy".
This album was re-released in America in 1988.

ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK ( OMD ) - the best of

Hello and welcome back...OMD first single was back in 1979 with the song "Electricity", a quirky synth driven song that would start this band to one of the best loved bands of the 80s.

Going under the banner of "New Wave" this band from England U.K was founded by Andy McCluskey (vocals, synth, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (vocals, synths) later adding Malcolm Holmes (drums, percussion ) and Martin Cooper (synths , sax ).

The best of OMD includes hits like "Enola gay", "tesla girls", "if you leave", "we love you" and my pick of the album "dreaming". which basically sums up my teenage years in the 80s, I quote the chorus from "dreaming" =
 I was only Dreaming
 I was only trying to catch your eye
 I was only wishing you would notice me
Instead you said "goodbye".

So, so true.

Track listings are =
1 = ELECTRICITY

2 = MESSAGES

3 = ENOLA GAY

4 = SOUVENIR

5 = JOAN OF ARC

6 = MAID OF ORLEANS

14 = FOREVER LIVE AND DIE

15 = DREAMING
