THE CARS
Hello and welcome back.... Fronted by Ric Ocasek, the U.S band "The Cars" were a huge part of the 80s.
Standing beside Ric was "Benjamin Orr" (lead vocals, bass) who in sadly died in year 2000 from cancer.
Benjamin was the voice behind hits like "Just what I needed", "Lets Go" & "Drive"
Other band members included Elliot Easton (guitars), Greg Hawkes (Synths) & David Robinson (drums).
The Cars released 3 albums in the 80s, those being "Shake It Up(1981)", "Heartbeat City(1984)" & "Door to Door(1987)".
Door to Door was the last to feature Benjamin Orr, before his death. There would not be another Cars studio album until the 2011 release of Move Like This.
I was a huge fan of The Cars mainly because the of the various synthesizer sounds with nearly every song sounding different and refreshing.
The Cars belted out 80s hits like "Shake it up", "Since your Gone", "Hello Again", "Magic", "Drive", "You Might Think", "Its Not The Night" & "Heartbeat city".
My Favorite song would have to be "You are the Girl", with its melodic synths and lush vocals its a song I never get sick of hearing, It also reminds me of a girl I once knew when I was at school at that time & yes she was the girl of my dreams....But Shhhh, don't tell anyone. :)
THE CARS - YOU ARE THE GIRL
THE CARS - SHAKE IT UP (thanks to sheerfolly2 for the use of the video)

COMMODORES - nightshift (lost hit)
Hello and welcome back....After the death in 1984 of both R&B singers "Jackie Wilson" & "Marvin Gaye", A band called the Commodore's (missing Lionel Richie) released the tribute song "Nightshift" back in 1985.
This song reach No3 in the U.S music charts.
For me, this song is smooth & classy with meaningful lyrics, a true classic of the 80s.
Something that both Jackie and Marvin would be proud of.

MACHINATIONS - cars & planes (club mix)
Hello and welcome back..... I gave up waiting for this song to make it to Youtube so it uploaded it myself. This is one of my most faviourite songs of the 80s.
Australian band "Machinations" released the song "Cars & Planes" back in 1989.
Sorry for the crap video, I just wanted to get the song live so I found some photos of my car I used to own, affectionately know as "Betsy" (A 1992 KH Ford Laser).
The song was recorded from tape but the sound quality is good :).
Enjoy a very rare song

THE REELS - bad moon rising (lost hit)
Hello and welcome back.....Walking through Sydney in the early nineties I stumbled across this band playing live at a open air concert. The band was "The Reels" and they were belting out the song "Bad Moon Rising", it literately made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, they were that good. The photo that you see on the left was taken by myself using a old Nikon film camera (remember them).
What got my attention apart from the excellent song was the strange sound the synth player was making with a mouth piece which made sea like sounds, even to this day I still don't know what it is called.
This song sound great with a good set of headphones, just close your eyes and be swept away :)

MACHINATIONS - no say in it (the tapeaters remix)
Hello and welcome back.... Sometimes when you hear a song that has been remixed, I often think.."Great, they killed it", not so with this song.... Its catchy and keeps to the original song. An excellent song just got better.

ALPHAVILLE - i die for you today (sounds like the 80s)
Hello and welcome back.... Just found this song while looking for something else, can't stop listening to it. Alphaville released an album back in 2010 (how did I miss that?) called "Catching Rays on Giant" and this song is the second track. The original singer is still the voice that you can hear (Marian Gold).
Its great to hear 80s bands that are making a comeback.
