1986 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back... 2nd Last in the Mixtape Series

Ah, 1986.. I was 16 years old and in year 10 in high school.. Yay... Right?

Actually, No..

I remember the last day of High School, walking home early with my best friend Rebecca (next door neighbor) singing "No more school, No more Books, No more Teachers Dirty Looks" and when i got home, i went swimming, ah, life was great...

A few days later it dawned on me.. Shit, I have to get a job.

And so started my working career. I got my first job at Venture. It was kinda like a K-Mart only more clothes but they did have a toy section... And guess who was in charge of the toy department?...

Me. :)

I remember i did a huge stack (like a pyramid) of Teddy Ruxpin's, took me almost 2 hours to create, Looked bloody wonderful... Was my boss impressed?.. Well, if he was, he didn't say.
Sadly it didn't last long.

I was at lunch when i heard a commotion.
A child had gone missing!!
The mother was frantic, all hysterical, shouting & crying.. poor thing.
My boss was flustered, getting worried by the minute... Salivating at the mouth

Me, i was more worried about my Teddy Ruxpin Pyramid which had seem to have lost shape... Some bloody kid had knocked it over,
I stood there looking at my creation gone wrong when suddenly, the Teddy Ruxpin pyramid (or what was left of it) started to move...
Turns out, the missing child also liked my pyramid and decided to hide in the middle part, only problem was, when he bumped a few on the inside, some outside ones fell and blocked the entrance.

The kid didn't seen fazed and was enjoying breaking apart my pyramid but i decided to take him to the front desk and he was reunited with his relieved mum.

That was the end of my pyramid building days.
When my boss found out that my Teddy Ruxpin Pyramid was to blame... well... there was alot of finger pointing and shouting and, well...Teddy Ruxpin was confined to the shelves.

A Teddy Ruxpin for those who have never seen one...

Moving On

This mixtape was recorded on my sisters boom-box.
She had a boom-box, i had a walkman but when she wasn't home, i would sneak in her room and record from the radio waiting for the bloody DJ to shut up and play music...
It was a real skill to get the full song with no talking DJ on the start or finish of the song.

1984 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back.... What a Year For Music

1984, One of the best years for music in my opinion... that, and 1987

I was 14 and in year 8 in High School.

When i wasn't at school, i was spending most of my time next door.

My next door neighbours were like my second family.

Times spent swimming, laying in the sun listening to the radio, bike riding and kicking a football in the middle of the street.

Listening to the radio, mostly 2SM (Rock of the 80s), some great tracks graced the airwaves, passing many an hour.

Some of the rarer tracks are on this mixtape, some you may not remember, but have a listen....

You might find yourself going "Oh Yeah, I Remember this Track"

01  Berlin - Dancing In Berlin
02  Nena - Nur Geträumt  (Not on Original Tape)
03  Debbie Harry - Rush Rush
04  General Public - Tenderness

1981 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back.... 1981, What a Year.. Right?

Actually, I was 11, bout the only good thing in my life was my cat (Tikka) and my next door neighbors who i would frequently escape to..

My Cat Tikka  (RIP)

I was in Year 5 Primary and life was shit...

Bullied by asshole students (funny enough, who now want to be Facebook friends... go figure), prick teachers that didn't get that i couldn't sit still for 2 hours in some crappy assembly, off to the office again... sadly a vicious cycle.

The one thing that had saving grace, was my dads love for music... Some of the music was really good and for Christmas, a gift of music. (Thanks Dad)

A few years earlier, i got a gift of a Shoebox tape recorder and two tapes, one tape was the best of  'The Animals' (think House of Rising Sun).
The second tape changed my life. It was a synthesizer tape called 'The Electronic System' by a bloke called 'Dan Lacksman' who in the 80s, became the man behind the outfit 'Telex' (think Moskow Diskow & Twist a Saint Tropez)

The Electronic System opened my eyes to Synthesizers and was a main inspiration to create this website..

That's right folks, amongst the Tears, Bashing's, Wanting to run away, this website is built on a simple tape that started around 1978 & continued into the 80s.. My Escape
Listening to that electronic tape took away the shit..for a little while..

Moving On

Like I said, my Dad had a pretty good taste in music and while he was at work, I created this Mixtape from an old tape he didn't need (well he didn't notice it missing)

1988 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back... The Good, The Bad & The Unknown.

The year was 1988 and I had turned 18, Time to Explore

The first part was amazing, for the first time, i traveled by myself (well, it was a tour group) to World Expo 88 in Brisbane, QLD

That's where this Mixtape started to take shape. You see, i had a AIWA Walkman (HS-J15) that could record from the radio.
I caught a bloody long diesel train (North Coast Overnight Express) from Central, Sydney to Murwillumbah, near the Qld border...
During the overnight trip, I sunk 2 beers (i was 18 now) and ate a big bowl of Ice Cream (first time on my own) YAY... Big Mistake, Sooooo Sick.... Constant shunting of the train was like being in a blender (well, it felt like it)
When i wasn't throwing up, i was recording this tape.

World Expo 88 was amazing, each pavilion was a journey to another part of the world, from real snowfields from Switzerland to a tiny laser man walking around a village in Japan.

World Expo was the only place where in one day you could ride in in a Helicopter, a Hovercraft, Monorail & chat to K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider all in one day.

World Expo By Air

The second part of 1988 was not good..

I got fired from my job.

I loved this job, i learned so much from this place.
That place was B.P Service Station in Campbelltown, NSW

How did i get sacked?

It was a simple misunderstanding.
In passing, i called my boss a silly old bastard... Who Hasn't, Who Hasn't...
I meant no disrespect.. if anything, he was a lovable, silly old bastard... A really nice bloke who taught me so many things about life.
But, word got back to him, all twisted and made to sound vicious.. I tried to explain but I was caught off guard... and he sacked me.

I Was Shattered...

The last part of 1988 was the 3.30am starts at my new job building Air Conditioners (Hello, Dricon / Diamond Air) in Enfield, NSW
Another job i loved until.... See 1989 post

Moving On

This Mixtape was mostly recorded on my Walkman from various radio stations around NSW as I traveled from Sydney to Queensland
Some really good tracks, some rarish in nature... Take a listen.

1983 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back... 1983, Here We Come

Ah 1983, I was 13 and in Year 7 High School (Hello Campbelltown High, where the barb wire is pointed on the inside to keep the students in... A Joke we used to say)

Probably the best part of 1983 for me, was going to my Nans for the weekend.

I was a little shit heading into my teen years, very restless and a very short attention span which used to drive my poor mum nuts, so she sent me off to my Nans for a little R & R.

At my Nans, i was allowed to borrow her transistor radio and i would lay awake all night listening to the radio, mostly 2UW, Magic 11, & 2SM (Sydney, Australia)

My Nan's Radio

I swear my Nan's house was haunted, it was always ice cold, even in summer and had a real creepy vibe to it. As a 13yo kid, i was privy to these sorts of things...Something felt bad and it wasn't my Nan snoring
It was the reason i stayed awake listening to the radio, i was too shit scared to fall asleep in case something possessed my body...

This mixtape was recorded on my Dads stereo system, all made in Japan (as most stereo systems in 1983 were) mostly when he wasn't home.

It was a mix of Denon, Ikel, Kenwood & Technics.

The speakers alone cost $3500...In 1983, that was alot of money... Probably its also why my mum divorced him.

I would have to make sure all the settings were exactly in the right spot when i finished recording...

About 20mins after he got home, I would hear him scream 'Who's been f*cken playing with my stereo' booming across the house as it seems i forgot to set the tape counter back to 000

Most of the tracks were from my Dads Record Collection, some were from radio station Triple M.

I have remastered the tracks in stunning 320kbps AAC, so the music sounds 'Palpable'

Some of the tracks you may not recognize, but once you listen, you will go 'Oh Yeah, I Remember This'

1989 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome to 2020 (Sounds Futuristic, doesn't it?)

I thought i would start the New Year with a Mixtape, from a year that changed my life... 1989

For me, 1989 started swimmingly.

I was working at a Air Conditioning factory in Enfield, NSW (Dricon / Diamond Air).
My day would start at 3.30am in order to catch the 4.30 train to Strathfield.
This train was a beast, a diesel from Goulburn, known to me as a Bullnose Diesel (aka Streamliner)
This train would fly through Glenfield station in 3 seconds flat...It was Fast

Then came the day that would change my life forever.

September 9th 1989

It was the day that I was hit by a car at 90kmph on my mountain bike on the way to work.
I was thrown 23metres (about 2 blocks) from the point of impact and I landed heavily on the road.
Me, hitting the road with such force that it broke my pelvis in 4 places, broke my collar bone, dislocated my left shoulder, broke my nose and tore my urethra (from the bladder out).

I remember laying on the road with the sounds of 'Def Leppard - Rocket' still playing on my Walkman (nice one AIWA).
I was freezing, the force of the impact ripped my shoes from my feet and in the distance, the sound of an arriving ambulance.

Then I Died.

I remember feeling pure euphoria, surrounded by a white light... just floating in this white light.
It lasted for, what felt like 30 seconds when suddenly i was back, with the smiling face of an ambulance officer looking down at me

I was greeted by a "Welcome Back".

From then, I was airlifted by the Careflight Helicopter, from Campbelltown to Liverpool Hospital for 2 operations, then airlifted again to Westmead for another operation, then back to Liverpool where i was to spend 4 months laying in a hospital bed to try and fix my broken pelvis.
But it wasn't over.
Blood was still leaking into my abdomen.

When the pelvis broke, it severed my blood supply to my legs and bled into my abdomen and testicles (by testicles were the size of a football)...I kid you not.

Off for another operation. This 4th operation was to be the second time that I Died.
The same beautiful feeling and white light, this time it lasted longer.

34 blood transfusions later, I was back. (just)

Me, still smiling..

By the end of the 4 months, i was down to 25.3kg in weight.

Back to the Music
During the 4 months laying there, I got the chance to catch up on various TV Shows (Good Times, Different Strokes, Days of our Lives & Hey, Hey, Its Saturday) and heaps of radio listening, mostly Triple J (got sick of hearing 'Richard Marx - Right Here Waiting' on other stations)

So Here It Is, my Mixtape i did while i was in Hospital. (and a bit when i got home)

Good thing about contacting 'Golden Staph infection' (nearly killed me...again) is that i got a room all by myself... yay.
I recorded this tape on my sisters boombox (a Hitachi, i think), later my dad brought me a wicked Sharp boombox, made in Japan with CD player... Niiice.

The first part of the Mixtape is mostly dance stuff.
Saturday nights on Triple J had a request time, so heaps of good tunes were played

VIDEOS

BLUE ZONE - JACKIE

MADONNA - OH FATHER

DEF LEPPARD - ROCKET
Not only did i die listening to this song, in the video above, it has the words 'Collision Course' written across the screen and bicycles hung on a rack... Creepy Shit or What?

MY SPICE RACK...

Fast Forward to Now, the pelvis is still giving me grief.
The pelvis is split apart at the front and as i get older, the muscles holding things in place weaken and added weight is pushing it further apart. Its not uncommon to slip in the shower and few minutes later have blood appear running down my legs because i tore the scar at the front.
Yes, i have tried puling the pelvis back together but it just opens a whole other can of worms, things ain't where they should be...

Could be worse, Could be Dead....

Until next Time, Happy New Year

1985 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back... Last Post for The Year

Another Tape that was found recently with a selection of tasty treats that graced the airwaves back in 1985.

I recorded this tape around summer 1985 / early 1986, from memory, listening to radio stations 2SM, 2UW and Triple M Sydney.

The last song on this tape was a compilation of Triple M employees including Doug Mulray (voices Madam Zenda and others), Johno & Danno and others which i have forgotten... I particularly like the voice of Binky and his family.

The time i did this tape, I was 15 and was headed into year 10 at school. (Campbelltown High, here I Come)

I was listening to my first Walkman (It was a Sanyo.. Thanks Mum & Dad) and enjoying the sweet sounds of Stereo...

From memory, i recorded this tape from my next door neighbors boom box that i had borrowed.

Take a listen, some songs you may not remember but once you hear them, you go "I Remember this"

1987 - LOST HITS MIXTAPE (Remastered)

Hello and Welcome Back.... One of my Fav Tapes back in the Day

This is one of the lost tapes / discs i found the other day and i decided to remaster it and release to the world.
A few of these songs are kinda rare in nature as i recorded the original tape in the Summer of 87 / early 1988.

For me, it was a interesting time.
I had left school and was working. Started at Venture in Campbelltown, NSW then started work at Shell and finally at B.P doing driveway attendant and helping the Mechanic.
This was the job i loved the most. The owner was into VW's so i got a inside look at the goings on with various VWs, inc beetles, fastbacks and the popular vans.
I also did Tyre repairs and I was the only place open on Saturday and Sundays who did Tyre repairs.
Below is a photo of a Tyre i fixed (rear drivers side)... "go on, do a burnout for me".. i asked.

Back to the music...

Some of the tracks were from friends who were into various tastes of music.
The song 'Tracey Spencer- Run to Me' was from an Italian bloke called Adrian who after getting a lift, lent me his tape of various Euro tracks and i instantly loved this song.

Take a Listen, some songs you may not recognize and its not till you listen, you go "Oh Yeah, I Remember This"

PERSONAL NOTE
Tomorrow is D-Day  for myself and my family as our home is literally surrounded by Bushfire.
I live in Springwood in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia
The Fire rating tomorrow is Catastrophic (the worst) and 46c temps with a Northerly wind up to 50kmph.
2 fire fronts are worrying. The first is the biggest in NSW and is to the north of me, having northerly winds tomorrow will push it closer. At the moment, its made its way to the middle of the valley with a uphill run towards Faulconbridge & Winmalee.(surrounding suburbs)
Im on the south side of Springwood.
The second fire is behind me in the south and has crossed into the bush and with a forecast of a late southerly, it will push that fire closer as well...

I can only pray that all ends well but is scary at the same time.

The photo below is a map of fire progression... The little black dot is where i am at the moment
