TAYLOR DAYNE - EVERY BEAT OF MY HEART

Hello and welcome back... So Love This

From 1989, 'Every Beat Of My Heart' is a superb song by the stunning U.S. singer 'Taylor Dayne'.

I'm not a big fan of Taylor Dayne (I find her voice irritating) but i love this track... That chorus is awesome.

From the album 'Cant Fight Fate', 'Every Beat Of My Heart' made it to #5 in both U.S & Canada

Magic Song... Take a Listen

N3W ORDER - SUBSTANCE 1987

Hello and welcome back... One of the best albums of the 80s

If there was ever an award for legend status of an album it would have to be this album.

Back in the late 80s I became a bike riding nut... I rode everywhere and to ride you need good tunes.. I nearly wore this tape out, packed with massive dance tunes, it enabled me to get up the meanest of hills.

Substance 1987 from U.K band New Order is a fine collection of all the current singles in 12inch form, B-Sides & re-recordings / edited versions as well.

Substance 1987 made it to #1 in the U.K music charts, #4 in New Zealand, #12 in Australia & #36 in the U.S

My favorite track would have to be 'Kiss of Death' with its pulsing synths & the occasional frog sound ... aahhh love the froggies.

THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Hello and welcome back... A small rant

I love Ebay, there are so many CDs, so little time..

I buy and sell several CDs a week. Most of the time its smooth sailing.

But their seems to be a practice by a few CD sellers that seem to think its O.K to hold on your purchased goods for 1 -2 -3 weeks before posting your items...

You see, when i sell a CD, within that day, i will head to the post office and bid that beloved CD
bon-voyage as i send it on its way to its new owner.

So, it pisses me when i stumble across certian sellers who use the excuse 'Its Being Processed'... for 2 bloody weeks?... Seriously, put it in a jiffy bag and sent it to me... You've got my bloody money.

Speaking of money, for those who have never sold anything on Ebay, when you buy something, the money is held by Paypal until everything is finalised then in about 1 -2 - 4 weeks later, they release the money, that way if there are any discrepancies, the money can be refunded, which is fair enough.

BUT, certain sellers will hold posting your item until the payment has been cleared and then decide to post it, a few weeks later.

I already have a list of sellers who live by this practice and will not be buying from them again. Not a good way to do business

I am currently in this situation again. I stupidly (without checking their terms and conditions) brough a fairly rare CD (which i will share with you) when it finally arrives.

Its being Processed... Still

DEAD OR ALIVE - SPIN ME ROUND (TDF MIX)

Hello and welcome back... Huge hit in the clubs, This version.

When 'Spin me Round (Like a Record) was released, it had a rocky start on the music charts according to Pete Waterman from SAW (Stock, Aiken & Waterman)

So they released this mix.

Known as the TDF mix, many people were under the impression the TDF part  meant 'Tour De France' or 'Tour De Force' mix but no.... It meant Two Dogs F@cking Mix, mostly because they used a sample of, well, two dogs having sex in the song.

It worked, the song went through the roof, and the rest is history.

This track also goes under the 'Buzzing Bees Mix'

Hello and welcome back.... One of Fav albums

Released in 1982, 'Spring Session M' was the first album for American Band 'Missing Persons'.

Four singles were released, these include Words, Destination Unknown (#42 U.S Charts), Walking in L.A. & Windows.

Fronted by the gorgeous Dale Bozzio, Missing Persons were a band ahead of their time, they had the look (Dale had hot blond & purple hair) and the sound, mixing lush guitars with splattering of synths tied in with the Cyndi Lauper type voice.

12INCH DANCE - AUSTRALIAN POP OF THE 80S

Hello and welcome back...

Back in the 80s, if you really, really, really loved a song, you would go and buy the 12inch of that song, and gaze in amazement that your fav song sometimes sounded even better than it did previously.

I was one of those people, and towards the end of the 80s, even ventured into the city to specialist shops to buy 12inch imports to add to my collection.

The 12inch dance mix was my fav, as was certain dub mixes.

In this collection (Taken from CD) we explore Australian 12inch tracks, some are quite rare and some, well, they really shouldn't have bothered.

I chuckle to myself as some these tracks that made it to a professionally made CD that they sell in shops, some versions are pretty chronic, sounding like they were recorded from a dodgy tape deck or even... (Cough), a Youtube stream... don't even get me started on the volume differences.

Still its better than nothing... Enjoy

CLASSIC TRACKS - VARIOUS ARTISTS (Music Download)

Hello and welcome back... So Glad I Found This Tape.

Recorded around the early 90s, Classic Tracks was a tape i recorded from various CDs and included some rare but much loved songs that you just don't hear anymore.

The tape i used was called 'Thats' and was available from stores in the Sydney City as the smaller stores did not stock this brand. Overseas the 'That's' brand was also known as 'Triad' and was used heavily in Indonesia bootleg albums.

The sound was impressive, and hard to tell the difference between CD and Tape.

TRACK LISTING (TX60 tape used - now included the extended intro of Roger Hodgson track that was not on the tape due to time restraints)

1. David and David - Welcome to the Boomtown
2. Steve Miller Band - Make the World Turn Around (featured in last post)

STEVE MILLER BAND - I WANT TO MAKE THE WORLD TURN AROUND

Hello and welcome back... Stunning song this.

From their 1986 album 'Living in the 20th Century' (2nd song) comes this lush sounding track called 'I Want To Make The World Turn Around' which made to #1 in the U.S Rock Charts (stayed there for six weeks).
The Saxophone is played by Kenny G.

I had actually forgotten this song, until i found a tape called 'Classic Tracks' which i recorded around the late 80s.

Take a listen and be swept away by this magic song.

D3F L3PPARD - HYSTERIA (Deluxe Edition)

Hello and welcome back... How Wicked Is This Album?.

Ok, Technically not an electronic band but they used electronic drums so it's sorta ok...

I was asked at a 80s party I attended , "What 80s band / album had the most influence on you when you were growing up" ?... I answered "Def Leppard - Hysteria album"...

'Why?' I was asked...
'Because I died while listening to the song "Rocket" (2nd song of the Hysteria album )'

Let me explain.. It was 4am and I was on my way to work riding my Mountain Bike and was listening to the sweet sounds of Def Leppard's Hysteria Tape on my AIWA walkman.

Half way through the song 'Rocket' was when I was hit by a car traveling around 80 kph..

I remember laying on the road, freezing, (middle of winter), hearing the ambulance siren getting closer.
I could still hear the song 'Rocket' playing through the headphones around my neck.
That's when I felt myself fading away and seen this incredible light. A white light that was suspending my body and the most euphoric feeling I have ever felt, it lasted about 30 seconds.

The ambulance team brought me back and then was air-lifted by Careflight Rescue helicopter to 3 hospitals for 4 major operations.

I died again on the forth operation and again I was brought back to life.

I broke my pelvis in 4 places that cut the main arteries to my legs which then bled into my stomach. After 32 blood transfusions I was on the road to recovery and here's where it gets weird.

Four months laying in hospital, I watched alot of TV and that's when I saw the music video to 'Rocket'.
In the video it had dismembered bicycles in the back ground and  right where I impacted with the car (just after the second chorus ) the words flash across the screen "Collision Course" and sings "We're gonna fly"... And fly I did.

Strangely enough I also used this album as part of my rehab.
I also suffered a dislocated shoulder and broken collar bone so I used to practice drumming to the sounds of 'Def Leppard' get my mobility back in my arm.

To me this album is one of the best ever 80s albums, even if it nearly killed me listening to it.

PET SHOP BOYS - HEART

Hello and welcome back... Got to say, I'm a huge fan of Pet Shop Boys

This video for the song 'Heart' is extremely well done. The video even includes a lonely vampire (think Nosferatu) looking for love in his empty cold castle (Mokrice Castle, Slovenia)

Released in 1988 from the 'Actually' album (One of my favs), the track 'Heart' made it to #1 in the U.K music charts. It was originally written for Madonna, but the Pets kept it for themselves... Clever Lads.

Play this one up LOUD :)

EURYTHMICS - BABYS GONNA CRY

Hello and welcome back... Wicked Track

Released in 1989 from the 'We Too Are One' album (Track 3) came this 'Roxette' sounding track (well, i think it sounds like It).

I found this album at my local Salvos store for $1 (half price day). Not really into Eurythmics later stuff but this opened my eyes, glad i found it.

What makes this track have that 'interesting' sound is the squeaks and blips of a synth throughout the song, giving that electronic lushness that i like, its still a rock song and a good one at that.

Other stand out tracks on this album are 'Don't Ask Me Why' & 'Revival'.

Its not a bad album (made it to #1 in the U.K. music charts) but was to be Eurythmics last album before Annie Lennox went solo with the album 'Diva' in 1992.

Eurythmics formed again in 1999 with the album 'Peace'

JAPANESE ISSUED CDs - M3DONNA - TRUE BLUE

Hello and welcome back... I'M Turning Japanese and i like it.

No, not me. I'm talking about Japanese issued CDs

I love everything about Japan, their culture, their technology and their yummy food.

CDs issued in Japan usually represents the best you can get, sound quality & build quality.

I have only one Japanese Issued CD at the moment which is 'Roxette Greatest Hits' (no OBI) but the CD booklet is in Japanese

There is sometimes a few problems with Japan Issued CDs.

One is cost. Some CDs sell for double, even triple the cost of a normal CD. This is usually because of the demand for something that is high quality.
The other problem is Time. It can take about 1 month (sometimes longer) to get your CD sent to you.

I am currently waiting on a Japan issued CD (Dead or Alive - Youthquake). Once i get it, i will share with you guys. (hopefully)
Also i hope that this CD will be the first one in my collection with a OBI Strip.

What is a OBI Strip I hear you ask?

An OBI Strip is the tiny piece of paper on the CD cover with a bit of information about the said CD

Looking at the pic above, the OBI strip (on the left hand side) is like a sash of authenticity and will often add value to your CD

The second thing is on the top left. The BSCD2 tag.
What is BSCD2?
It means its a Blue Spec CD Ver2.
Blue Spec is a Sony invention. On most western CDs, a process called Red Book (Red Laser) is used in the writing to the CD.
Blue spec is where a Blue Laser is used producing more precise grooves in a CD which, according to Sony, reduces distortion during playback.
Version 2 is a Blu-spec CD format which employs a more precise BD cutting machine, a master disc that is made from the same smooth material as silicon wafers for chip manufacture, and a different recording layer material for the master disc. Sony refers to this process as "Phase Transition Mastering"

Another thing you often see on Japanese made CDs is "HMCD" mark, this is often found on a Toshiba/JVC branded CDs.
HMCDs is an improved CD product with the greatest change being a different polycarbonate material that allows more precise physical representation of stored bits during pressing and less laser scatter during reading.
These improvements aim to facilitate playback by producing fewer errors and potentially better sound quality.

Both formats will play on a normal CD player

MP3 / AAC /FLAC VERSIONS

Japan Issued versions of Flac or MP3/AAC can also be hard to get your hands on. One album i have in my collection is "Madonna - True Blue" which i will share with you.
I noticed straight away the difference in sound quality between the normal CD version of the album and the AAC Japan Version.
The Japanese version sounds more crisp and vibrant but i will let you make up your own mind, if you can, leave it in the AAC file format, I find that if you change music to MP3, you lose on quality.

MADONNA - TRUE BLUE (REMASTERED JAPAN VERSION) (AAC 320Kbps)

Track List
01. Papa Don't Preach
02. Open Your Heart
03. White Heat
04. Live To Tell
05. Where's The Party
06. True Blue
07. La Isla Bonita
08. Jimmy Jimmy
09. Love Makes The World Go Round

11. La Isla Bonita (Extended Remix)

SWANEE - TEMPORARY HEARTACHE

Hello and welcome back...

Love this song, from 1982, Temporary Heartache from Australian singer John Swan (Swanee) brother of Jimmy Barnes, made it to #2 in the Australian music charts.

Used to always hear this song on 2SM (Radio Station) when i visited my Nan's and listen to the radio all night.

The best part is the Sax solo, sounding wicked..

K3DS IN THE K3TCHEN - SHINE

Hello and welcome back... 4 Major singles from this album, how good is that?

Fresh from the New Romantic movement, "Kids in the Kitchen" was an Australian band which I often refer to as "haircut bands" because many band members worked as hairdressers by day, then musicians at night, keeping that fresh out of the salon look.

Other Aussie bands I refer to as well, are Pseudo Echo, Real Life & Dear Enemy.

The album "Shine" was Kids in the Kitchen's first album and it was Huge.. it scored 4 1985 hit singles being Change in Mood, Something That You Said, Current Stand and "Bitter Desire"which is my pick of the album, with its danceable beats, the amazing voice of Scott Carne and a magic brass section in the middle of the song that sends chills down my spine and goosebumps everywhere else.

A classic sample of Australian 80's synth..

01. Shine
02. Current Stand

MARIANNE FAITHFULL - RUNNING FOR OUR LIVES

Hello and welcome back... Been looking for this song for years, exept??

This song was only known to me by an Australian Actress / Singer 'Jo Beth Taylor' who did a version of this song back in 1986 and was aired on TV show 'Hey Hey, Its Saturday'... The video has long disappeared.

And, I found it again, the original version sung by Marianne Faithfull.

Its a powerful ballad, sweet but haunting at the same time.

I'm glad i found it again.. Enjoy

D3AR EN3MY - RANS3M NOTE & B3YOND

Hello and welcome back... One of my most Fav albums.

From Melbourne (Australia), the band 'Dear Enemy' smashed out onto the charts with the track 'Computer One'.
While this was a good thing to get the band recognition, they failed to reach the same heights with following songs 'The Good Life', Day to Day & 'Kids on the Street'

The album 'Ransom Note' was released in 1984 and made it to #15 on the Australian Music Charts.

It was recorded in the U.S. by Capitol / EMI records and was only released on Vinyl / Cassette

Around 1999 EMI released 'Ransom Note & Beyond', a collection of the album Ransom Note and nine other unreleased tracks on CD

This version below is a CD Version (from my library) and is in AAC format. (320kbps)

TIME FOR A NEW MUSIC PLAYER / PHONE

Hello and welcome back... Thought this might interest you.

For years I have been carrying 2 devices with me... My mobile phone (Apple 3GS) and my Ipod Touch (5th Gen).
But it was time for a change, it was time to merge the devices together.

I'm not rich, far from it.
Because of injury's i sustained in a car / work accident, i am now on the disability pension and in considerable pain every day.
When i get the chance to get something new like a new phone, (my last phone was 10 years old), I have to make a choice, that is going to last about 5-7 years before i can get another one.
So it has to be the right choice.

Music is my lifeline. When pain & depression kicks in, I find music helps... Alot
Moving on...

I was an Apple fan boy.
I loved all thing Apple, but these last few years i have changed my mind.
Why?
I had the chance to play with my sons Iphone 7.
First thing i notice is that 'No Headphone Socket'
"But you can use a adapter" was my sons explanation but if you want to charge the phone you can't use the headphones.
I had a listen to some music using the adapter and can't say i was impressed, in fact, i would say the old Ipod Touch sounded better, it sounded 'crisper'
Then there's no support for 24Bit Flac files.
Sure you can download the Onkyo app but you have to pay for it (the free version doesn't support FLAC)
Another thing that i found using the Iphone 7 and the Ipod touch, everything is the same, same menu, same layout.
I just found the whole thing 'boring'
Take a look at the Ipod Classic. It looked different, felt different...
You can go from a Iphone 5 to a Iphone 8 and apart from a speed difference, not much has changed, not music wise... It all sounds the same.

Then there is Itunes. Its still doesn't (to this day) support FLAC files or 24Bit Audio.

But I still like Itunes mostly because the AAC file format sounds better than MP3.
MP3 tends to sound 'watery' if that makes sense on some tracks.

Moving On

Doing weeks of research, I came to the realization that my new phone would have to be an Android phone.
Android supports FLAC and some even supports 24BIT Audio.
It also supports expansion cards for turning your 64GB phone into a 256GB phone... Something Apple refuses to do.

MY WISH LIST

1. HTC 10 (Has a 24Bit DAC (Digital Audio Converter) and Headphone Amp built in).. Cost $450
2. LG V20 /V30 (32Bit Quad DAC built in) Cost around $799- $999
3. ZTE AXOM 7 (32Bit AKM DAC) Cost $380 (very limited software in phone)
4. SONY XPERIA XZ Cost $550 - 650
5. SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 Cost $800-900

MY CHOICE? = SONY XPERIA XZ .

Why did i choose the Sony?

3 Reasons why I chose the Sony over all the others

1. The Xperia supports 24Bit Flac audio (most HI-Res Audio that you buy from various online stores are downloaded in 24BIT FLAC) and no need to buy additional apps. It just works.
A gold HR will show in the corner of your album art.

2. A clever invention called DSEE HX... What the heck is that i hear you ask??
DSEE HX is built in to the Sony music player and upscales your existing music to near 24bit sound.
This is seriously amazing... It really brings your music to life.
How to explain it = It expands and enhances the little sounds in the background of your music. Those nearly impossible synths, guitars, etc, etc that you can hardly hear due to compression suddenly are noticeable again.
It really has to be heard to understand what i'm talking about.

The thing is, when you have been listening for a while with DSEE HX turned on and then you turn it off in the menu setting, It really makes a difference... Your original music sounds very...Flat.

                                                                       OR
From Sony's Website = The Digital Sound Enhancement Engine HX (DSEE HX) upscales your compressed digital music files (MP3, ACC, ATRAC and WMA) and takes them closer to the quality of High-Resolution Audio.
By restoring the high-range sound lost in the compression process, DSEE HX produces your digital music files in rich, natural sound, closer to the quality of the original recording.

3. Headphone Optimization
What this clever thing does, it listens to your music for around 10secs while your listening and adjusts the sound coming into your headphones.
I use two different set of headphones.
1.Apple 'bud' headphones
2. Sony Noise Reduction headphones.
I find i use the apple headphones alot, they are easy to put in your ears, not like those other phones that you push into your ear canal, can't stand them... horrid
After about 10sec of using the bud headphones, you can hear the optimization kick in... Suddenly there's more bass, more clarity.... they sound more 'fuller'
Funny enough, on the Sony's i prefer to turn the optimization off as it tends to take away some of the detail.
I am very impressed with the sound i get from my setup, and i am veeery picky about sound.

Sony Xperia XZ also supports LDAC = HI-Res Audio over Bluetooth (great for Bluetooth Headphones)

There is also Surround Sound settings (prob like most other Android phones) but i don't use them.

So there you have it.

If your an 80s music lover and want to breath new life into your music collection, I highly recommend the Sony Xperia XZ phone for music listening.

*** Note, this post is my own thoughts, its not sponsored by Sony or Apple.
If i love a product, i like to write about it so that someone in the same situation may enjoy reading about certain products, like i do ****
