BUCKS FIZZ - WHEN WE WERE YOUNG

Hello and welcome back.... Awesome track and one you don't hear of very often.

Released in 1983, 'When we were Young' made it to No 4 in French music charts, No6 in Ireland and No10 in the U.K.

The song's lyrics tell of a woman in old age, who laments the fact that she has lost her youth and looks. (Haven't we all?)

Love the electronic drums on this track... pretty wicked.

JERRY HARRISON - MAN WITH A GUN

Hello and welcome back.... Love this track, you don't hear it very often.

I found it on a CD i have called '80s The Lost Hits'.
U.S musician 'Jerry Harrison' is best known as Synth and Guitarist for 80s band 'Talking Heads'

From 1988, Man with a Gun was from the album 'Casual Gods'... I particularly love the synth that goes side to side, adds a real atmosphere to the track.. Enjoy

THE COOL NOTES - HOUSE OF LOVE

Hello and welcome back... I found it!!! After 25 year of searching for this particular song, i finally found it.... Let me explain.

In 1989 i had a car accident and was recovering in hospital for 4 months so i had a lot of time to listen to the radio, catch up on daytime soaps.. ect.

An album that came my way was called '1989 Hot House Hits' and had a collection of various dance tracks... it was a pretty good album. Fast forward a year my tape got stuck in a tape deck and it was lost forever.
Trying to track down a song that all i could remember was a guy saying 'This aught to be a song'.. that was it, even google couldn't find it UNTIL...

Yesterday while searching for some old tapes on Ebay, i recognized the album cover and thought 'That looks familiar'.. it was my beloved album and the 25year search was over.

Released on Public Records in 1988, The Cool Notes were a U.K band (south London).
The track 'House of Love' was a single/ 12" only as well as B side to the track 'Magic Lover.. doesn't seem to be on any albums that i can find.

Such an awesome song, so glad i found it...

RENE & YVETTE (Allo Allo) - JE T'AIME...MOI NON PLUS

Hello and welcome back....

Being a huge fan of the 80s British sitcom 'Allo Allo', I was surprised that i didn't know about this track from 1986 called 'Je T'Aime.. Moi Non Plus'.

Gordon Kaye (Rene) and Vicky Michelle (Yvette) sing their love for each other in this, sometimes painful, rendition of a 1969 love song, originally sang by Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg.

Released on Vinyl thru Sedition records in the U.K (Accord records in France), the B side was a rap song called 'Rene D.M.C. (Devastating Macho Charisma).... no words needed, it was pretty bad.

WALKMANS THAT IVE OWNED

Hello and welcome back.... My love of the Walkman (Personal Cassette Player).

I miss the Walkman.

Throughout the middle 80s till early 90s i was madly in love with my Walkman. I had several through the years. The best one was a Anniversary model from AIWA and was made in Japan.

It cost me a small fortune (around $800), for someone who pumped petrol for a living, it took a while to save up (about 6 months).

You could buy a gold model or a black model. I chose black because as i didn't want to get mugged (gold looked too flashy)
This thing was the ducks nuts of Walkmans, auto reverse, record from radio or built in mic (or plug in), all metal construction, amorphous head and leather case.
You could tell some serious work went into the design and build of these units from Japan.

As you can see from the pics above, they were a real work of art. This little walkman went everywhere with me.... Until, I was hit by a car going 80kmph early one morning on my way to work.
Sadly, i never seen it again. While i was laying on the road, dying (i died twice), bleeding internally, pelvis broken in 4 places.... Some shithead (excuse the french) stole my most prized possession. It was gone.

I had several since but none was the same as this model. I preferred AIWA over Sony units, the sound quality seemed better.
I owned several Sony, Phillips, Panasonic models but always went back to the AIWA models.

Their was something about Walkmans, they sounded amazing and looked amazing. The good ones played Normal, Chrome (my fav) and Metal tapes with a selection of 60, 90 or 120 mins to listen to. I usually used 60 min tapes because i found that the 90 or 120 min tapes would put too much stress on the motors / rubber bands.
You had to listen to the whole tape. Sure you could FF (Fast Forward) but you never really knew where you would end up, but you didn't mind because it sounded so good.
The auto-reverse was wicked. Finished one side and like magic would turn to the other side.

You could interact with your Walkman....  You could...
listen to the radio, preset channels for later use.
Change bias from Normal, Chrome and Metal / Dolby to hear the difference.
Add extra bass at the push of a button.
Fall asleep using the timer function to the sounds of Milli Vanilli,
Wake to the sounds of Milli Vanilli using the alarm function.

It was like your best friend.

I will put a few pics below of some of the various Walkmans i owned (that i can remember)

Lets hope in the near future, someone will bring back the Walkman... And hopefully will put some effort into it.
You can get a Walkman style tape player for around $49 dollars at the moment but its very basic. No auto reverse, no bias settings just a USB out for its claim to fame. Still its a start.

Vinyl Records are making a comeback so fingers (and legs) crossed.

Some Walkman's Ive owned and loved over the years.....

P.S Massive thanks to website Walkman-Archive.com for the memories / pics of these amazing units.

CANADIAN 80S - PART 1

Hello and welcome back.... Canada, famous for Maple Syrup, Ice Hockey and Beavers.

The music that was coming out of Canada in the 80s was awesome, they really know how to make a decent sound and its why I've decided to showcase some of Canada's finest electronic bands.

Its not a full list (see wikipedia for that one) but its one's that i like and particular songs that come under the electronic / new wave banner.

________ FM - JUST LIKE YOU _____________________________________________________

From 1985 came this track from the 'Con-Test' album and featured 'Nash the Slash' on vocals.
'Just like You' made it to No 38 on the Canadian charts.
Wicked sound... Check out that hair, wow

FM - JUST LIKE YOU

_____ MARTHA AND THE MUFFINS - ECHO BEACH __________________________________

Released to the world in 1980, this track was awesome, from the sultry sax inserts to a lead singer who plays synth, this song had a sound that stays in your mind for hours to come... and left you  wondering.. "Where is Echo Beach and how do i get there"

Made it to No5 in the Canadian Music charts (No6 in Australia / No10 in the U.K)

MARTHA AND THE MUFFINS - ECHO BEACH

_____ ROUGH TRADE - ALL TOUCH ________________________________________________

Holy shit, this song is wicked.... Fronted by a slightly scary front singer (Carole Pope), Canadian's Rough Trade had this smash hit back in 1981. The hard edge lyrics mixed with Carole's energetic vocal style made this track one of my Favs.
Made it to No 12 in the Canadian music charts.

ROUGH TRADE - ALL TOUCH

______ MEN WITHOUT HATS - SAFETY DANCE ______________________________________

Yes, its true... Canada is to blame for this one. Actually, its pretty good, if not slightly disturbing (watch the video) and begs the question, What the hell is the girl on?.. (because i want some).

Released to a unsuspecting world back in 1983, soon everyone was doing the 'Safety Dance' and if your friends didn't dance, well, they were no friends of mine... or, so the song goes.

Made it to No3 in the U.S music charts, No 11 in Canada and everyone was doing the Safety Dance in South Africa because it made it to No1 in their music charts.

MEN WITHOUT HATS - SAFETY DANCE

_____ STRANGE ADVANCE - WE RUN ______________________________________________

Having the same bass line as 'Wham - Last Christmas" (sounds like it to me), Strange Advance had this awesome hit back in 1985 and was from the album titled '2WO'

Heavy use of classic 80s synths including the Fairlight, Yamaha DX7, and Jupiter 8 meant that this band was going places, and they did... Straight to No28 on the Canadian music charts.

If you get the chance to get your hands on this album, its well worth it. Some seriously wicked tracks await you.

STRANGE ADVANCE - WE RUN

STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 NEXT WEEK (Hopefully) :)

REBEL MC - STREET TUFF

Hello and welcome back... From 1989 came this track from U.K music producer 'Rebel MC' (Michael Alec Anthony West) called 'Street Tuff'. This song also featured rapper?  'Double Trouble'.

Street Tuff made it to No3 in the U.K and Netherlands music charts and was from the album 'Rebel Music' (Desire Records)

Is he a Yankee?, No, He's a Londoner...

OH, in case you were wondering about that Bassline, its from a track called "54-46 That's My Number" by The Maytals.

BEST TRACKS Part two

Hello and welcome back.... Continuing with the 'Best Tracks' posts, what songs i love, can't stop listening to and why.
Sometimes a song is not just a song, there's meaning behind a particular sound or sometimes its the video, a lot of effort goes into some videos and they can make or break a track...Hope you enjoy

PROPAGANDA - DUEL

Such a amazing track, from 1985, German band 'Propaganda' had a huge hit with the track 'Duel'. Using the band Kraftwerk as inspiration, this track made it to No21 in the U.K music charts.
I love the vocals in this song, so powerful and rich and the various array of sounds that play through till the end... It deserves to be in this list, i love it.

PROPAGANDA - DUEL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE ADVENTURES - SEND MY HEART

Why, Why, Why wasn't this track (and band) bigger than they were?. This track is pure heaven.
From the lush guitar work, the honey like vocals and the sweet melodies this is one track i can listen to over and over.
Came out around 1985 and was from the album 'Theodore and Friends'. Just about all the tracks on this album are brilliant, well worth adding to your collection if you don't already have it.

THE ADVENTURES - SEND MY HEART

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FUN FUN - BAILA BOLERO

Such a fun song, released around 1986 by Italio Disco outfit 'Fun Fun'.
Love the video, the 2 singers in the video makes this track even better. The girl in the black top really works the camera and looks stunning, as does the girl in the white top but she looks a little lost... now, where did that camera go?

FUN FUN - BAILA BOLERO

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JEAN BEAUVOIIR - FEEL THE HEAT

Another track where not only the song is wicked but so is the album its from. Jean Beauvoir's huge hit from 1986 called 'Feel the Heat' from the 'Drums Across the Mohawk' album. This track also featured in the closing credits on the Sylvester Stallone movie 'Cobra'... Its pure power, from the guitars, silky synths and that Mohawk, wow, awesome Mohawk.
Pump it up.

JEAN BEAUVOIR - FEEL THE HEAT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VANESSA PARADIS - JOE LE TAXI

This track, i simply love. The sweet sound of soft synth, a little sax, and the honey like vocals of a very young 'Vanessa Paradis'. I think she was about 14 or 15 in this clip.
'Joe le Taxi' was written for Vanessa by two writers (Franck Langolff and √Čtienne Roda-Gil) about a taxi driver called Joe (obvious) who knows everything about France, likes rum and dreams of going to the Amazon. It made it to No2 in the U.K music charts (No1 in France) in 1987.
Close your eyes and be taken to sunny France on a summers afternoon.
Simply stunning

MY BEST TRACKS - Part One

Hello and welcome back.... I was asked the other day, 'Whats your favorite 80s track at the moment?', What song from the 80s do i love to listening to over and over again and never get sick of hearing?...

Well, there's a few, so i thought... Why not share with my 80s loving peeps out there, so here is a list of tracks that i love and why.

Never know, you may just hear a song you have never heard before and start you on a wonderful journey....

LIAN ROSS - FANTASY

Possibly my most favorite track at the moment, The bass sounds like it should come from a synth but in the video its done on guitar (love the hair), also there's a pretty big keytar as well (so 80s).
But its the synth sound that captures my mind, love the choir like sound and the little 3 claps (i used this method in my latest track).... Such a wicked song, so 80s, with lyrics you can sing to.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VALERIE DORE - THE NIGHT

From the opening scene (drugs anyone?) to the drummer who looks like he's thinking 'Are you friggin serious' (love the hair), This track by Italo Disco diva Valerie Dore is simple but effective. Has such an awesome sound.. love it
Must say, the DX7 (synth) player is lookin pretty swish...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BAD BOYS BLUE - COME BACK AND STAY

The first time i heard this track, i was getting a lift from a work college (he was Italian) and he had it playing on a tape in his car (i think he did a copy for me) but i lost it years ago. All i remember was the middle part where the singer says 'Oh Baby'... Thats it.
Fast forward 30 years or so and while listening to online radio station 'Polska Stacja, 80s and Italo Disco' I hear this song... Yes, i had found it again (crowd cheers)
Sadly 2 of the 3 male singers from this band are now deceased but its still an amazing sounding track to listen to.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROXY MUSIC - SAME OLD SCENE

This is what i call Intelligent music, its been crafted with such skill, the sounds, the lyrics... pure Roxy Music.
The heavy use of the Prophet synth is one of the things that draws me to this track, those lush string sounds, then add the vocals of Brian Ferry, those sweet sounding vocals, its pure heaven.
Came out around 1982-3, I used to hear it often on my dads stereo, he was a huge Roxy fan, that, and at the time, Sydney radio station Triple M was starting to broadcast in stereo so it sounded even better on my AIWA Walkman as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TIME BANDITS - ENDLESS ROAD

This is the track i want to be played at my funeral. I so love this track, after all we are all on a endless road in life and spirit.
Love the synth sounds in this track, the little 3 note bits at the end of each line just adds to the overall ambiance to the track.
The video was done in Australia mostly around Gold Coast (Queensland) and Bondi Beach? (NSW) even though the Time Bandits were a dutch band.
Came out around 1985

Hello and welcome back... Just a quick post to let you know that some of the music downloads are no longer active.
I was using Spreaker to host the downloads but i have been put back to 20 hours of airtime because i fail to upgrade, which is fair enough, but i just can't afford it... That's life
The ones i left behind are the bigger ones (ones with the most downloads).

DREAM SEQUENCE - TAKE ME (Sounds like the 80s)

Hello and welcome back.... Awesome new track for Australian music producer DREAM SEQUENCE

Called 'Take Me' the track mix's sweet sounding synths, lush choir/strings and a hint of Acid. For those who are wondering... What is Acid?
The Acid sound was heard in the late 80s House scene and is produced by tweaking a Roland 303 Bass synth.
Its a fairly distinctive sound and one that Dream Sequence uses in his music often...

Take a listen, see what you think..

ICEHOUSE - ICEHOUSE

Hello and welcome back.... Most people know this band as 'Icehouse' but before the name change they were known as 'Flowers'

The track 'Icehouse' was from the album of the same name and was released back in 1980.

The haunting synths and clear cut vocals of Iva (real name 'Ivor') Davis make this song even more appealing as it tells a story of a place called 'The Icehouse'...

'The Icehouse' was a 2 story house in inner Sydney (Lindfield) that even in summer was ice cold.
An interview from Iva who lived in the house and was studying Oboe at the time, told of a strange vibe from the house. "In a space of 6 months, 3 people were found dead on the front lawn, 2 people who live upstairs were committed and after Iva moved out, the guy who took his room went insane in 3 months"
If that wasn't bad enough, across the road was a half way house for psychiatric people and a old mansion few doors down found 3 old ladies had died, one after the other.

Enough to write a song about? Its called 'The Icehouse'

FAD GADGET - LADYSHAVE

Hello and welcome back... New wave meets Industrial kind of sums up the outfit 'Fad Gadget'.
Fad Gadget is from the U.K and is the work of one person (Francis (Frank) John Tovey).
Fad Gadget blended industrial sound into his early work such as electric drills and razors, then added early synths and dark undertone lyrics to the mix.... Sort of early Depeche Mode only ...Darker

Sadly the man behind the name Fad Gadget (Frank Tovey) died back in 2002 at the age of 45 (Heart Attack)... He was working on a new album at the time of his death... R.I.P.

For me, I hadn't really gotten into Fad Gadgets music, i had heard of the name but it wasn't until a friend of mine introduced me to this track, i became hooked... Its Raw, Electronic and Moody...
Love it.

LYRICS

High up in the skies much miles away
lived a very special man.
one night in my dreams I heard him say
he'll be coming to this land.

Distant lover
king of Galaxy
welcome to my world of fantasy
come into my world of mystery
welcome home to me

I woke up into a big surprise
stars were falling from the skies
I've been happy ever since that day
I woke up to hear him say

Distant lover

welcome to my world of fantasy

I can remember buying this album while in Sydney one Saturday, slipping the fresh brought cassette into my AIWA Walkman and loving the amazing sound.. Pure Heaven

RICK ASTLEY - SHE WANTS TO DANCE WITH ME

Hello and welcome back... In between the huge hits Rick Astley was pumping out during the 80s, came this track back in 1988.

'She Wants to Dance With Me' is a happy little number, with an infectious melodie that plays thru the track and Ricks signature vocals... Its one of my favourite songs.

She wants to dance with Me came from the 1988 Album 'Hold me in your Arms'  and made it to No 1 (music charts) in Canada & No 6 in the U.K and was Ricks first ever self composed track....

Awesome

LYRICS (In case you want to sing Along)

She wants to dance
Oooh, she wants to dance with me
Oh wow yeah

There’s a girl I’ve been meaning to see
And I really get the feeling that she likes me
Cos she said so, but not in so many words
I’ve got to tell you what I’ve heard

She don’t want no wild romance
When she’s with me she only wants to dance

She wants to dance with me
Cos I hold her so tight next to me
She wants to dance with me
Cos I let her be what she wants to be

Now I know I’ve been out of touch
And I never meant to hurt my baby oh so much
Cos I love her and I think she loves me
And that’s the way it’s got to be

When we’re together we never fight
We’ve got better things to do tonight

She wants to dance with me
Cos I hold her so tight next to me
She wants to dance with me
Cos I let her be what she wants to be

She wants to dance
She wants to dance

She wants to dance with me
Cos I hold her so tight next to me
She wants to dance with me
Cos I let her be what she wants to be

She wants to dance with me
Cos I hold her so tight next to me
She wants to dance with me
Cos I let her be what she wants to be

She wants to dance with me
Cos I hold her so tight next to me
She wants to dance with me
Cos I let her be what she wants to be

STREETHEART - ONE MORE TIME

Hello and welcome back... Love this track, such an amazing sound...
Canadian band 'STREETHEART' released this killer track back in 1982.
In 1975, vocalist Ken Shields, Daryl Gutheil (synths) and Ken Sinnaeve (bass) formed the band Wascana. After being renamed Witness, they then went through another name change when guitarist Paul Dean and drummer Matt Frenette joined... And Streetheart was born.

SOLID CITIZENS - SINGING IN THE SHOWER (2015)

Hello and welcome back... Australian band 'Solid Citizens' had this excellent hit in 1985 called 'Singing in the Shower'
Fast forward 30 or so years and the track has been re-released and is also on the compilation CD called 'Australian Pop of the 80s - Vol 4 Run to Paradise'.. well worth getting this collection, there is some great rare tracks that sound amazing after a digital cleanup including this track.

Such a classic song.. Love it

SOLID CITIZENS - SINGING IN THE SHOWER  (2015)

INFO FROM THE VIDEO
This is a 2015 re-mastered version of Solid Citizens' hit 'Singing in the shower' featuring a young Danielle Spencer in the Psycho shower scene intro. Other versions of the recording were digitized from the vinyl record, and don't have the frequency range and depth this version has, which was digitized from the analogue master tape. It's from Michael Walker's EP 'Now and then' which can be purchased on iTunes. Michael was the co-founding member of Solid Citizens and lead singer. Michael was inspired to write the song after hearing a Thursday Island family sitting out on their Brisbane verandah, singing their hearts out for all the world to hear. Glen Muirhead and John Barns co-wrote the song. Michael Walker and Glen Muirhead recorded the song at the Manor Studios UK with Mike Shipley and Mark Goldenberg producing. John Whitteron and the K team produced and directed the film clip.

GLEAMING SPIRES - ARE YOU READY (FOR THE SEX GIRLS)

Hello and welcome back... Viewers who love the 80s movie 'Revenge of the Nerds' & 'Last American Virgin' will instantly recognize this song.
U.S band Gleaming Spires (founded by Les Bohem and David Kendrick) had this one and only hit with originally a B-Side called Sex Girls (Are you Ready) and was from the album 'Songs from the spires'
Several members of Gleaming Spires were also members of bands like 'Sparks' and 'Devo'
Oh, and if you were expecting the video to contain sexy girls... Forget it. Anyone for meringue?

GLEAMING SPIRES - ARE YOU READY (SEX GIRLS)  (1981)

Thanks to onlyalad for the video

LYRICS

Are you ready for the sex girls?
The hot, hot, lean, hot, big hot girls?
Are you ready for the sex girls?
The right, right, ultra-vital nice-nice girls?

They play pool in your house, take off their own clothes
They can talk about love, they know where it goes
They are women without any faults…

Are you ready for the pony girls?
The ride, ride, fast, ride, pony girls?
Are you ready for the lonely girls?
The sad, sad, oh, sad lonely girls?

They've got time on their hands, they've got skin like seals
They can talk about love, they know how it feels
They are women without any faults

One comes over
Then they all come over
Then they party all around your house
One gets too romantic
One is kinda frantic
One stays quiet as a mouse

Bikinis gleaming in the morning light
You might lose your life
They go crazy in the bedroom, baby
And they might explode your mind!

Are you ready for the sex girls?
The fine, fine, super-special real sex girls?
Are you ready for the best girls?
The knees-showin', knees-showin', big-breast girls?

There's that knock on your door and they're there in your house
If you can't talk love you better get out
These are women without any faults

And they are never accidental
And the party never ends
So close your eyes and make a wish
The sex girls will be there!

Are you ready for the sex girls?
Sex! Sex! Sex! Sex!

Are you ready for the sex girls?
The hot, hot, lean, hot, big hot girls?
Are you ready for the sex girls?
The hot, hot, lean, hot, big hot girls?
There's that knock on your door they have come back again
If you can't talk love you'd better pretend
These are women without any faults

Are you ready for the sex girls?
The hot, hot, lean, hot, big hot girls?
Are you ready for the sex girls?
The hot, hot, lean, hot, big hot girls?

There's that knock on your door, now you just gotta learn
Don't whine about love, every boy gets a turn
With these women without any faults

Are you ready for the sex girls?
No one is ready for the sex girls!
Are you ready for the sex girls?
No one is ready for the big sex girls

BEAUVOIR / FREE - ANGELS CRY

Hello and welcome back... Kick Ass new music from rockers JEAN BEAUVOIR & MICKI FREE.

In 1986, one of the best movies came across our screens, that was of course the movie "Cobra" with Sylvester Stallone.. What made it even better was the end track from ex-Plasmatics singer 'Jean Beauvoir' with 'Feel The Heat'.
The album 'Drums across the Mohawk' was a huge hit and its one album i still listen to today.

Also in the 80s another rocker was making waves with the band 'Shalamar' was 'Micki Free'.
With hits singles from Footloose and Beverly Hills Cop, it was only a matter of time that these two legends would cross paths.
Fast forward to 2015 and a new album and single has emerged. The album is called "American Trash", its 11 tracks of pure rock heaven.
Rock On..

SYNTHS OF THE 80s - JUPITER 8

Hello and welcome back... Decide to start a section of posts dedicated to the sounds of the 80s.. The Synthesizers. Hey, you might even learn something.

One of my most Fav Syths of the 80s was this beast... The ROLAND JUPITER 8

Expensive as hell but oh so warm, the ability to split the keys in half was one of this bad boys traits (one side could play a bass arp while the other half could play strings..etc)... Oh, and you could layer the sounds as well.

Bands who used the 'Jupiter 8' (or JP8) included Duran Duran (Hungry like the Wolf), Frankie goes to Hollywood (Relax), Michael Jackson (Thriller), Roxy Music (Avalon), Vince Clarke (Yazoo), Depeche Mode, Devo, Jean Michel Jarre, Howard Jones, Tears for Fears, Talk Talk.. The list goes on and on.

Released in 1981 from Japan, The Jupiter 8 was an 8 voice polyphonic analogue synth, bonus features included an Arpeggio (arp) inc 'Random mode',  Adjustable Portamento, Patch saving, Instrument layer and split modes, and an awesome Unison mode.
(for more in depth facts, check out the links below)

So, how does it sound?
Its warm, lush and Fat.. This synth has to heard to be believed.
If you want warm Strings.. Its got it.
If you want lush Special Effects.. Its got it.
If you want Fat Bass sounds.. Its got that too..
No wonder it was so popular.. Oh, and it very heavy

Its often labeled as "The Prettiest Synth ever Made"

They stopped making the 'Jupiter 8' in 1985

No Midi was available but you could get a 'Patch' cord... An upgrade was later available as well

Today, a second hand Jupiter 8 can cost around $2000 - $5000

Cant afford a real 'Jupiter 8' but want to experience the lush fat sounds?
French company 'Arturia' has released a software version that is practically an exact replica of the Jupiter8 and it sounds incredible.

Called The 'Jupiter-8V' (see below)
The presets (400 of them) that come with the Jupiter-8V is mind blowing.. Prepare to spend 'hours' lost in this baby.
Costs around $100 and midi compatible and can be used as stand alone (VSTI) or VST

JUPITER-8V

Personally, I have used the Arturia Jupiter-8V in my music (Dream Sequence) and find it one of the best software synthesizers on the market, Midi this to a Midi keyboard (I use the Arturia Analogue Experience and M-Audio Keystation) and you have the closest replica to the real Jupiter 8..
