NU SHOOZ - I CAN'T WAIT (Lost Hit)

Hello and welcome back.... Released in 1985 (recorded in 84),  this excellent song made it to No1 in the U.S Dance charts.....

'I Can't Wait' featured on 2  albums, those being 'Poolside' and 'Tha's Right' (Rare Album)

I love this song.... used to always get confused with a Stevie Nicks song with the same name, but then again, its not hard to confuse me :)

Nu Shooz is still going today and has released a new album in 2013 called 'Kung Poa Kitchen' and is available from CD Baby

LIVE AID 1985 Inc Music Download (Mixtape 18)

Hello and welcome back....July 13th, 1985 was the place to be with one of the biggest concerts ever telecast around the world...
 "Live Aid 1985"

Cranking up the satellites and broadcasting to an estimated global audience of 1.8 Billion people from 150 nations...

HOW IT ALL STARTED
After images of starving children in Ethiopia were beamed to the TV sets of millions, the images sent shock-waves around the world.
Those images affected one man in particular, that man was....
Bob Geldof, lead singer from 70s/80s band 'The Boomtown Rats'
Bob then contacted MidgeUre (Ultravox) and together with Music promoter Harvey Goldsmith, penned the 1984 song 'Do They know it Christmas' , and with various music artists, went on to raise funds and to try and stop the suffering of the people of Ethiopia.

BAND AID - DO THEY KNOW IT CHRISTMAS

But Bob Geldof had bigger things on his mind...

Meanwhile in America, Music artists 'Michael Jackson' and 'Lionel Richie' had seen the plight that Bob Geldof was preaching and Recorded "USA For Africa - We are the World" with music artists across the U.S.
This effort made $63 million....

USA FOR AFRICA - WE ARE THE WORLD  (Thanks to kamikatze07 for the video)

While "Band Aid - Do They Know it Christmas" was successful as well (raised £8 million), it wasn't enough, realizing that the scale of hunger and disease was bigger than first thought, and the fact that the food and aid was sitting in docks unable to be distributed,  more funds were needed to get the job done properly.....

And so.... Live Aid 1985 was born (aka - The Global Jukebox).

WHERE WAS 'LIVE AID 1985' STAGED ?

Main concerts were held at Wembley Stadium in London,U.K
(from 12pm - 11pm BST (British Summer Time), 72,000 seat capacity)

FREEZEPOP - DOPPELGANGER (Sounds like the 80s)

Hello and welcome back.....I have featured this band in the past with my 'Sounds Like The 80s' Mixtape 1 (SEE HERE) and love their sound.

U.S band 'Freezepop' had this hit 'Doppelganger' in 2012, polished with a quirky video to boot.

So far Freezepop have released 4 albums to date

One question, why isn't this band not bigger than they are, seriously, their music is friggin awesome, with some polished slick sounds but only 8,000 views on this video, am I missing something??

This is one of those songs that stays in your head for a long time.... a 10/10 song

FREEZEPOP - DOPPELGANGER  (thanks to freezepop for the video)

Another excellent song (well I like it :) )

FAMILIE SILLY - BETTE DAVIS EYES (Lost Hit)

Hello and welcome back..... A cover version of 'Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes' from German band"Familie Silly" (Silly).

Lead Singer 'Tamara Danz' had a stunning voice and gives Kim Carnes a run for her money in this 1982 video.... Sounds Awesome. (Reminds me a little of German singer "Nina"- think 99 luft balloons)

Sadly, in 1996 Tamara past away from breast cancer, she was only 43.

The band Silly still continues today bringing out a new album called Head to Head in 2013.....

One of the best cover versions Ive heard in a long time.....

FAMILIE SILLY - BETTE DAVIS EYES  (Thanks to fritz51175 for the video)

By the way, in case you were wondering....the band got the name 'Silly" after their pet cat who quote 'behaved in a silly manner'.... Makes sense.

GODLEY AND CREME - CRY (Lost Hit)

Hello and welcome back....After the breakup of 70s band "10cc", U.K musician & video directors 'Kevin Godley' and 'Lol Creme' made this powerhouse single "Cry" in 1985.

The duo of Godley & Creme were already directing music videos for bands like Ultravox, The Police, Duran Duran, Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Wang Chung...

Cry was from the album 'The History Mix Vol 1' and made it to No 8 in Germany's music charts which made them want to....Cry  (Sorry, couldn't help myself)

Keven Godley is now a member of synthpop group 'Art of Noise'

This is a stunning video with face morphing or 'analogue cross-fading' done extreamly well and the ending hits on a high note.... Amazing.

ZLAD - ELECTRONIK SUPERSONIK

Hello and welcome back..... From the Eastern European republic of Molvania comes 'Zladko “Zlad” Vladcik'

The song 'Electronik Supersonik' was to be the entry song into 2004 Eurovision song contest for Zlad representing his home town but he was disqualified for "Recreational drugs" and deported before he could play his tune.

From a statement on Molvania website - On his return, “Zlad” apologised to everyone in Molvania for letting them down, especially his family, his friends and his drug dealer.

Then, in an exciting move, “Zlad” formed supergroup Wow! But while on their very first tour, he decided to go solo again, citing the fact that the rest of the band was “moving in a different direction” (mainly Romania).

ZLAD - ELECTRONIK SUPERSONIK  (Thanks to tjudge5 for the video)

LYRICS (you know, in case you want to sing along)

Hey baby, wake up from your asleep.
We have arrived on to the future and the whole world is become...

Electronik, supersonik. Supersonik, electronik.

Hey baby, ride with me away.
We doesn't have much time.
My blue jeans is tight,
So on to my love rocket climb.
Inside tank of fuel is not fuel but love,
Above us, there is nothing above
But the stars above.
All systems gone, prepare for downcount!
5
4
3
1!
Offblast!

Fly away in my space rocket.
You no need put money in my pocket.
The door is closed I just lock it.
(Hah!) I put my spark plug in your socket (Hah! Ha ha hah!)

The sun in sky is bright like fire!
You and me gets higher and higher.
Heart of communication fire!
Only thing can stop us is flat tire.

(Hah! Hah! Ha ha hah!)

Hey love crusader, I want to be your space invader.
For you I will descend the deepest moon crater.
I is most stronger than darth vapor.
Obey me, I is your new dictator.

For you is Venus, I am Mars.
With you I is more richer than all the czars.
Make a wishes on a shooting stars, then for you I will play on my cosmic guitars!

Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your beltseats.
We has commenced our descent.
I trust you enjoy this flight as much as you enjoy this accent.

Now, back on earth, is time for down splash.
Into sea of eternal glory my spaceship crash.
People have arrived for to cheer me from near and far.
And as I bloat, I open door and shout:
I am world's biggest washed-up superstar!
(Supersonik, electronik)

As for sure as the sun rises in the west, of all the singers and poets on earth, I am the bestest.
Come, let me put ring of jupiter on your finger.
Then, like a smell around you, I will forever linger.

Okay, is time for end, no more will I sang.
Let me take you back in time, I want for you to experience big bang.
Long live space race, long live Molvania.

WANT TO BUY A PIECE OF MUSIC HISTORY? - FAIRLIGHT COMPUTER SYNTH OWNED BY BORIS BLANK (Yello)

Hello and welcome back..... Got a spare $13,000 and don't know what to buy?....

How about a piece of music history....

Up for sale is the Fairlight computer / synth CMI III owned by 'Boris Blank' from the band "Yello" (Think 'Oh Yeah')

For a mere $12,900 (Aus) it could all be yours.

They used to cost $65,000 in 1985 and it has even been signed by Boris himself, BUT you need to hurry, the selling ends in a few days...

SEE EBAY PAGE HERE

YELLO - OH YEAH      (Thanks to philippekogler for the video)

TAKEN FROM THE EBAY PAGE

Every Fairlight Computer Musical Instrument has a story behind it. Hugely expensive when new, their unique sounds and legendary user interface were used by music pioneers who changed the sound of music forever.
At a cost around $65,000 in 1985 (which could have bought you a very nice house) the list of Fairlight III owners reads like a who’s who of musical innovation of the time. Peter Gabriel, Tears for Fears, Kate Bush, Thomas Dolby, Hans Zimmer and Pet Shop Boys were owners in the UK, with many studios catering for those who didn’t own one. For a complete list take a look at:
The particular system being offered here belongs to Boris Blank, the musical part of Swiss band Yello. One could argue that during the 1980’s Yello used the Fairlight more, and more interestingly than virtually anyone else. Every hit single they had (and there were quite a few) used the Fairlight CMI extensively..
So, if you ever lusted after one of these legendary instruments, here’s a chance to acquire one with some serious street cred!
Yello Fairlight III. Signed front panel. There will be Boris's sounds included, as well as all the libraries listed below, in 4 x hard drives. Boris is on holiday at the moment, however his assistant has promised some more photos and goodies when he returns!
Offered for sale is a very rare, vintage classic Fairlight CMI III computer musical instrument workstation in excellent condition. The system is a late model, in three rack units which are 8U, 8U and 5U for the hard drive enclosure. It has the latest and best in technical innovations, whilst still retaining the classic legendary sound of the CMI. The system is switchable for 110, 220 or 240V so will work ANYWHERE in the world.
The system has the latest 9.34 music software, has 16 voices, mono graphics card and monitor, and 24 output router.  Instead of the usual 14 Mbytes RAM memory fitted as standard from the factory, this unit has a brand new 32 Mbyte card, which is the maximum possible in these systems. It also has a digital sampler module and a Turbo-SCSI card: It is therefore fully optioned with the last and best revisions of both hardware and software. There is no music keyboard, however any MIDI keyboard or external computer/sequencer will work brilliantly. I can supply a colour graphics card at additional cost if desired, to enable the system to run with many flat LCD screens. If required, the original mono graphics can be re-installed in minutes..
There are four hard drives installed. Three are original, with Boris's sounds, and the forth is "My" collection of libraries I normally include with my systems for sale. These are as follows:
Complete Fairlight library, Prosonus Strings, Brass, Percussion, Sound
Genesis strings, plus many libraries collected over the last 25 years
dealing with top producers and musicians. These include libraries from: Pet
Shop Boys, Trevor Horn, Hans Zimmer, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Art of Noise and many, many others. The complete Fairlight IIX library is also included.
The floppy and WORM drive work intemittantly, however these were only used in the 1980's before more reliable and cost-effective storage emerged. Therefore there is no warranty on these parts. The only other points of note are that some of the keys on the alpha-numeric keyboard are beginning to lose their legends (see picture), and the graphics pad is worn in places. I have however adjusted the keyboard so that the worn spots on the pad doesn't cause problems.
The system has been serviced, will have a full set of manuals on CD, all leads, latest firmware, and come with 3 months warranty (apart from the two drives mentioned above).
Please note you’ll see other Fairlight systems advertised, and some might be less expensive. However, do some research before you buy. What may look like a bargain might not look so appealing when its obsolete parts finally give up. This applies specially to earlier systems.  This system is complete, fully functional, and will work straight out of the box. I worked as product specialist and studio manager at Fairlight in Sydney during most of the 1980s, and have been involved in re-building Fairlight CMIs for over 25 years. I have sold and supported well over 45 of these classic samplers. If you are in any doubt, please type “Peter Wielk Fairlight” into the worlds favourite search engine and see what comes out.
You might be apprehensive about owning a big piece of technology, however the Fairlight CMIs were designed to last – no new technology comes near it for build quality. All the cards and modules of a series III are plug-in which makes servicing a breeze (and also helped push the original price up). In the unlikely event of a board failure, this can simply be swapped out for a replacement from me, to either repair or replace. I have a huge amount of spares, since I bought most of the factories old stock and spare parts. I also do repairs at board level, and re-manufacture parts when unavailable. I have been supporting these incredible systems for many years, and hope to continue this for many more…
I have tried to describe this system as accurately as possible. However, please feel free to ask any questions, or if you’re passing through Sydney, you would be very welcome to have an extensive demonstration. Lastly, these systems were designed and built with no compromises, reflected by their US$75,000 price tag when new. The sound is completely awesome. You might buy a sample CD of the Fairlight sounds, it will sound NOTHING like the real thing.
Also, only about 200 systems were built, and they were sold to the most influental musicians and producers in the world. The sounds of the Fairlight CMI formed the soundtrack of the 1980s. So, if you’ve always lusted after one, here’s your chance to own a part of music history!

Extra information:
This system is multi-timbral, in that it can produce 16 different sounds at any given time. It also has dynamic voice allocation, meaning that although the device is 16 channels, one could play for example, 16 voices of piano in one bar of music, 16 voices of brass in the next, 16 of vibraphone in the next, and so on. Each sound is output through it's own dedicated router output, of which there are 24. A loom will be provided to interface the first 8 "routputs" with your mixer. This differs from the earlier CMI IIIs, as they had only one monophonic output per XLR. As producer and Fairlight programmer extrordinaire Andy Richards (look him up for credentials) once said: "Having a router is like having a Fairlight and a half"

OH YEAH.....

P.S - On a personal note, today is the 6th day of bushfires raging around me, today, my family and I had the car packed and ready to evacuate....
While extremely nervous, smoke filled air, sound of sirens and the heavy thud of helicopters all day, its nice to put on a pair of headphones and listen to some great music like this band,..oh... and keep an eye on the fire at the same time...

BLONDIE - HEART OF GLASS (Lost Hit)

Hello and welcome back.... From the 1978 album "Parallel Lines" came this stunning song with an equally stunning singer "Debbie Harry"....

Released in 1979, 'Heart of Glass' made heavy use of the 'Roland CR-78 Drum Machine' .... New Technology back then.

There was controversy when this song came out because it pulled away from common rock roots and shifted towards Disco, and they used the word 'Ass', being squeaky clean late 70s, that was a no-no, and the BBC blanked it out..
(Original lyrics =  Once I had a love, it was a gas. Soon turned out, it was a pain in the ass)....

I love this song, such a good sound that still sounds good today...
